NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Another game, another Tribe victory.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team moved to 9-0 on the season Thursday with a 39-29 victory over the New Bremen Cardinals.
The Division III No. 5 Indians stayed in the hunt for a Midwest Athletic Conference title too, improving to 4-0 in conference play. The Indians are tied with Division IV No. 1 Minster and Versailles, which is one spot ahead of FRHS in the state rankings.
New Bremen (4-8, 0-4 MAC) took a 7-5 advantage after the first quarter and led by as many as five points in the second quarter. Fort Recovery battled to head into the locker room tied at 14 at halftime. The Indians limited the Cardinals to just two points in the third quarter for a 21-16 lead before holding an 18-13 edge in the final period.
Grace Thien made three of her eight 3-point attempts on the way to a game-high 14 points. Whitney Will followed with 10 points while Jocelyn Kaiser tallied seven points.
Carley Stone and Kaiser had four assists each.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team defeated New Bremen 18-16. Brook Kahlig led the Indians with seven points, Val Muhlenkamp added five and Aleigha Jenkins totaled four points.
Swimmers beat Cavs
BERNE — The South Adams boys and girls swim teams picked up lopsided wins against the Coldwater Cavaliers on Thursday.
The Starfire girls won 11 of 12 events in earning a 130-40 victory. The boys won nine races in their 101.5-48.5 triumph.
Ashley LeFever, Ashton Klopp and Brette Klopp each earned a pair of individual wins for the SAHS girls. LeFever was first in both the 200- and 100-yard freestyle events. Ashton Klopp won the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle while her twin Brette won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Olivia Von Gunten (200 individual medley) and Audrey Burson (100 breaststroke) also won their respective races.

Chiefs win again
MONROEVILLE — East Jay Middle School’s seventh grade boys basketball team remained perfect on the year with a 52-12 victory Thursday against the host Heritage Patriots.
The EJMS eighth graders also won, 41-15.
Gavin Muhlenkamp and Adrek Pogue both scored nine points to lead the EJMS seventh graders (9-0, 6-0 Allen County Athletic Conference). Colton Walker was close behind with eight points, while Tarron Bentz, Adam Muhlenkamp and Ethan Dirksen tallied six points each.
Landon Grimes scored 12 points in pacing the eighth grade Chiefs, who got six points each from Brody Auker and Brian Zhang. Ryan VanCise recorded five points while Nick Fields and Bailey Cox contributed three points each.
EJ sweeps Heritage
East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams swept the Heritage Patriots on Thursday.
The seventh grade squad won 38-9, and the eighth graders picked up a 31-8 victory.
Madison Dirksen scored eight points in leading the seventh grade Chiefs. Heaven Hambrock, Holly Hemmelgarn and Abby Elzey scored six points apiece while Jayden Claytor chipped in four points.
Natalie Miles scored a game-high 13 points for the East Jay eighth graders. Ana Heath, Alana Kunkler and Aubrie Schwieterman scored six points each in the win.
Both teams also won all three relays.
