NEW BREMEN — Once the Indians took control, they never let the home team have a chance.

Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team trailed early, but used a quick 12-0 run to take the lead and was steady the rest of the way in a 56-38 victory over the New Bremen Cardinals.

The Indians (8-1, 3-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) were down by two in the first quarter before Payton Jutte hit a 3-pointer off of a Ryan Braun assist with 3:17 on the clock to put them ahead 8-7. Barely two minutes later, they would have a double-digit lead.

Ryan Braun hit three free throws, Jutte contributed two and Travis Sutter and Micaiah Cox each hit field goals to complete the 12-point run that changed the game.

The Cardinals (0-10, 0-3 MAC) never closed the gap to fewer than six points, and Fort Recovery, which is ranked tenth in Division III, led by at least 15 throughout the final period.

Cox tallied 13 points to lead the Indians while also grabbing four rebounds. Jutte had 11 points and five steals, and Jason Roessner added nine points.

Caleb Martin hauled down 10 rebounds.

Nolan Bornhorst totaled 15 points and four boards for the New Bremen. Luke Vonderhaar followed with 12 points, but no other Cardinal had more than four.
