INDIANAPOLIS — The Spartans ended the Patriots’ season in each of the last two years.
The teams will meet again to open the tournament in two weeks.
In the IHSAA girls basketball sectional draw held Sunday, Jay County High School received an opening-round matchup with the Homestead Spartans.
South Adams will also open against the host team, the Churubusco Eagles.
Jay County (12-7), which lost to the Class 4A No. 2 Spartans 70-38 on Nov. 29 in Portland, will open the Sectional 6 tournament at Homestead against the three-time defending sectional champion Spartans (18-1) at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31. The winner advances to face Fort Wayne South Side (11-7) in the semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3.
The other opening-round game pits the Muncie Central Bearcats (2-16) against the Wayne Generals (1-17) at 6 p.m. Jan. 31. The winner meets Huntington North at 6 p.m. Feb. 3. The championship game is slated for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.
South Adams opens Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament at Churubusco against the host Golden Eagles (5-13) at 7 p.m. Jan. 31. The winner meets the Blackford Bruins (4-13) at 6 p.m. Feb. 3.
The Starfires play Churubusco at home on Jan. 25 in their second-to-last game of the regular season.
The other opening-round games have the Bluffton Tigers (10-9) meeting the Eastside Blazers (12-6) at 6 p.m. Feb. 1, with the Adams Central Flying Jets (2-17) squaring off against the Woodlan Warriors (9-10) later that evening. The winners of those two games meet at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3, and the championship game will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 4.
