West Jay Middle School’s seventh grade boys basketball team finished second in the East Jay Invitational on Saturday.
The Eagles defeated Bellmont 43-29 in the first game before losing to Monroe Central 39-28 in the championship.
Quinn Faulkner totaled 39 points to lead the Eagles, who got 15 from Camdin Harrison, 11 from Nick Street and six from Trenton Alexander.
East Jay lost both games of the tournament. Monroe Central handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season, 31-28, and then East Jay fell to Bellmont, 41-35.
Ethan Dirksen tallied 21 points for East Jay. Gavin Muhlenkamp totaled 15 points, Adam Muhlenkamp scored 10 and Gavin Myers chipped in seven.
The East Jay eighth grade squad was 1-1 on the day, dropping the first game to Monroe Central (37-33) before beating West Jay 43-28. Landon Grimes and Brody Auker both scored 19 points for the Chiefs. Bailey Cox tallied 14 points, while Griffin Mann had eight and Cameron Langenkamp totaled six points.
Logan Brown led West Jay’s eighth graders with 27 points. Luke Haggard tallied five points, while Hunter Shumaker, Ashton Kuss, Hunter Miller and Drew Powers had three points apiece.
East Jay’s sixth grade squad beat Selma in overtime, 33-30, before losing to Southside 35-26.
Carter Link and Bennett Weitzel both had 15 total points to lead East Jay. Blake Bogenschutz followed with eight points, while Peter Muhlenkamp had five points.
