ARCANUM, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season by holding off a late rally in a 33-31 victory Saturday against the Arcanum Trojans.
Fort Recovery (11-1), which is ranked fourth in Division III, held a 12-4 advantage after the first quarter and led 22-14 at halftime. The Trojans cut into the deficit during the third with a 7-4 margin to trail 26-21 heading into the fourth quarter, but the rally came up short.
Jocelyn Kaiser scored a dozen points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Indians. Whitney Will joined her in double figures with 11 points, and Carley Stone had six points.
Stevie Johntin led Arcanum with 12 points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won, 18-16. Chloe Showalter had a game-high seven points for FRHS.
FR falls to Trojans
ARCANUM, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys basketball team dropped back-to-back games Saturday with a 52-44 loss to the Arcanum Trojans.
The Indians (9-3) had a narrow 7-6 lead after the first quarter, but the second proved to be the difference. Arcanum outscored Fort Recovery 20-8 in the second quarter for a 26-15 halftime lead. The Indians trimmed the margin to 32-30 before the Trojans pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Caleb Martin, Micaiah Cox and Payton Jutte each scored a 12 points for the Indians. Martin also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double, and Cox hauled in nine boards.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity squad lost 46-34. Trevor Vaughn had 12 points and a dozen rebounds to lead the Indians.
Stars clinch share
WOODBURN — South Adams’ girls basketball team defeated the Woodlan Warriors 43-38 on Saturday to clinch a share of the Allen County Athletic Conference title.
It is the first conference title for the Starfires, who are 11-9 and tied with Jay County atop the ACAC standings at 5-1.
South Adams led 12-10 after the first quarter but trailed at halftime, 23-20. A 14-10 margin during the third quarter put the Starfires out front and they held off Woodlan’s chance to share the title with Jay County.
Sydney Pierce had a game-high 15 points for the Starfires. Lexi Dellinger was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line on her way to 13 points. Calyssa Lehman chipped in eight points.
South Adams’ junior varsity team lost, 50-46. Emilee Myers led the Starfires with 19 points.
Tribe tankers win
GREENVILLE, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls swim team won five events Friday in finishing first in a five-team meet at Darke County YMCA.
The Indians totaled 100 points, finishing ahead of the host Greenville Green Wave (84) and Brookville (72).
Fort Recovery’s boys placed fourth with 26 points behind Troy Christian (126), Greenville (76) and Brookville (60).
Alexis Bubp, Cassy Martin and Sophie Timmerman each won an individual event for the Indians. Bubp finished first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 04.62 seconds, Martin won the 100 freestyle in 57.16 and Timmerman beat the field in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:12.59.
Faith Hull and Madison Grover joined Martin and Timmerman to win the 200 medley relay (2:05.92) and 200 freestyle relay (1:55.42).
Harrison Kaup led the boys with a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle, ahead of teammate Robby LeFevre in fourth. Kaup was also fifth in the 100 freestyle.
Nolan Thobe was fourth in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 individual medley.
