Chiefs advance to tournament final

MONROE — The Chiefs are headed to the conference championship.
East Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both beat the Adams Central Jets on Wednesday in the semifinal of the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament.
The seventh grade squad moved to 14-3 with a 34-20 victory over the Jets, while the eighth graders improved to 10-7 with a 43-24 win.
Gavin Muhlenkamp scored 11 points to lead the EJMS seventh graders. Ethan Dirksen followed with six points and Tarron Bentz tallied five points. Crosby Heniser, Dylan Knapshafer and Adam Muhlenkamp notched four points each, Adrek Pogue scored three points and Hunter Chapman added two points.
Landon Grimes led the eighth graders with 17 points and Bailey Cox joined him in double figures with 10 points. Cameron Langenkamp contributed six points, Brian Zhang added four points with Nick Fields, Griffin Mann and Brody Auker notching two points apiece.
East Jay advances to the championship game on Saturday at Southern Wells in Poneto. The seventh grade contest tips at 10 a.m., with the eighth grade tilt to follow.

MONROE — East Jay’s seventh grade girls basketball team advanced to the ACAC tournament championship with a 25-9 win over Adams Central on Wednesday.
The EJMS eighth graders lost in the semifinal 30-15.
Madison Dirksen scored 12 points to lead the seventh grade Chiefs, who got four points each from Rachel Muhlenkamp, Andrea Jutte and Heaven Hambrock as well as one point from Chailey Muhlenkamp.
Grace Saxman paced the eighth graders in the loss by scoring five points. Natalie Miles and Aubrey Schwieterman chipped in four points apiece while Alana Kunkler added two points.
