On the court, the Patriots opened with three consecutive losses for the first time since the 2001-02 season. One of those defeats has now been erased.
The Jay County High School boys basketball team received a forfeit of its Nov. 26 game against the Richmond Red Devils.
Richmond, which won the game 43-42, “found and reported to the Indiana High School Athletic Association a violation that impacts the result of our Boys Varsity Basketball game,” according to an email Thursday from Frank Carr, Richmond’s athletics director.
“We reported that a boys basketball player participated in multiple varsity basketball games without an approved transfer report on file with the IHSAA,” the email says.
The Red Devils had beaten the Patriots, Central Christian, Miami Valley (Ohio), Seton Catholic, Muncie Central and Belmont (Ohio), this season with 11 losses. Those victories are no more.
With the change, Jay County, which hosts the Bluffton Tigers (4-9) on Friday and travels to Hartford City on Saturday to take on the Blackford Bruins (1-13), is now 9-5.
The Red Devils are now 0-17.
