Swimmers win Wabash relays

OSSIAN — The swimmers are halfway to once again sweeping the conference.

The Jay County Summer Swim team won 30 of the 50 relays Saturday to take first place in the Wabash Valley Conference relays at Norwell High School.

Jay County totaled 2,234 points to finish ahead of Wells Community (1,920). South Adams totaled 1,118 for second place, and Bellmont was fourth with 474 points.

In the 8-and-younger boys division, Rockland Beiswanger, Raif Beiswanger and Alex Miller teamed for four wins. They joined Jaxson DeHoff to win the medley, butterfly and breaststroke relays. The trio also teamed with Colt Pennington for a victory in the freestyle relay. Raif Beiswanger, Pennington, DeHoff and Miller won the backstroke relay.

Maddy Snow, Aubrey Millspaugh, Morgan DeHoff and Natalie Carreno swept their 9-and-10-year-old relays.

In the 9-and-10-year-old boys division, Lincoln Clamme, David Keen and Creed Beiswanger joined George Clemmons to win the butterfly relay, and teamed Jacob Monroe for a victory in the freestyle relay.

Sophie Saxman, Mara Bader and Zion Beiswanger combined for two wins in the 11-and-12-year-old girls age group. Emily Strausburg joined the trio for a breaststroke victory, while Cami Caldwell helped them win the freestyle relay.

Eliza Bader had her hand in all five victories in the 13-and-14 year-old girls division. She teamed with Lillian Clemmons, Reiley Brewster and Ashlyn Dow for wins in the medley and butterfly events.

Kelly Strausburg, Dow, Clemmons and Bader won the backstroke, while Elayna Paro, Dow, Clemmons and Bader combined to win the breaststroke and freestyle relays.

Ben Nichols, Nico Minnich, Damian Hicks and Griffin Mann were victorious in the 13-and-14-year-old boys breaststroke race.

In the 15-and-older girls division, Elizabeth McDowell and Erica Hathaway helped Jay County win every race. They teamed with Vivienne Kunkler and Natalie Blakely for victories in the medley and freestyle events, combined with Jenna Dunfee and Blakely to win the butterfly and breaststroke and joined Emma James and Kunkler to win the breaststroke relay.

For the 15-and-older boys age group, Chase McFarland, Matthew Minnich, Garrett Campbell and Jason Minnich won the medley relay. Ben Strausburg, Jason Minnich, Matthew Minnich and Campbell combined to win the butterfly.

Jason Minnich, McFarland, Strausburg and Campbell combined to place first in the backstroke and freestyle events, while the Minnichs, McFarland and Strausburg won the breaststroke relay.
