Record falls in victory

Anne Vormohr, Sophie Bader, Ashley Mark and Alex Bader spent most of their swim careers rewriting the Jay County swim program’s record books.

On Tuesday, one of their feats was erased.

Eliza Bader, Ashlyn Dow, Rieley Brewster and Lillian Clemmons combined to break the 200-yard medley relay record as the Jay County middle school swim teams defeated the South Adams Starfires at JCHS.

The girls won 173-107 to keep their record unblemished at 7-0, while the boys moved to 3-3-1 with a 201-85 victory.

Bader, Dow, Brewster and Clemmons swam to a time of 1 minute, 58.54 seconds, besting the aforementioned quartet’s mark of 2:00.4 set in 2012.

Clemmons, Dow and Bader also picked up a pair of individual victories. Clemmons won the 200 freestyle in 2:25.17 and placed first in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.79. Dow earned victories in the 100 individual medley and 400 freestyle in 1:04.41 and 4:47.35 respectively. Bader touched the wall ahead of the field in the 50 butterfly (27.91 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.74).

In the 50 freestyle, Mara Bader won in 29.41 seconds.

Elayna Paro, Clemmons and the Bader sisters teamed for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:57.69, and Mara Bader, Paro, Brewster and Dow won the 300 freestyle relay in 3:10.4.

On the boys’ side, Juan Pablo Wiggins, Ben Nichols and Sammy Crump were each dual winners. Wiggins handled the 200 freestyle (2:29.8) and 400 freestyle (5:07.57) races, Nichols won the 100 IM (1:17.33) and 100 breaststroke (1:22.2), and Crump was victorious in the 50 freestyle (28.71) and 100 freestyle (1:07.08).

Damian Hicks, Konner Sommers, Nichols and Wiggins earned a victory in the 200 medley relay in 2:23.3. The 200 freestyle relay team of Nico Minnich, Griffin Mann, Crump and Nichols won in 2:04.15, and Hicks, Mann, Crump and Wiggins partnered for a victory in the 300 freestyle in 3:22.48.

For South Adams, Blaine Harruff earned the only girls victory in diving (90.4 points). Alec Neuenschwander (50 butterfly – 35.44) and Clancy McIntire (100 backstroke – 1:16.63) won for the boys.
