Hill, Miles make regional

TERRE HAUTE — A pair of local athletes are headed to regional.

Jay County High School freshman Halle Hill and junior Courtney Miles qualified for the USA Gymnastics Region 5 meet based on their performance at state on Saturday at Indiana State University.

To qualify for regional, a gymnast much reach an all-around score of 34.0 or higher.

Hill turned in three top-eight finishes, including placing seventh on both the floor exercise (9.35) and uneven bars (8.65). She added an 8.825 on vault to place eighth, and was 13th on balance beam with a score of 8.75. Her all-around total of 35.575 was 12th in the 15-and-older Level 8 age group.

Competing in the same division, Miles was 11th on both uneven bars (8.4) and balance beam (8.950). She totaled 8.3 on vault for 16th and 8.75 on floor for 17th. She totaled 34.4 on all-around to finish 17th.

The regional meet will be April 21 through 23 at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan.
