MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School softball team closed out the regular season Saturday with a 4-1 loss to the Minster Wildcats.
Minster (16-7, 4-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a run one inning later.
The Wildcats extended the lead to 4-0 after the fourth. Fort Recovery (3-17, 1-6 MAC) finally broke through in the top of the sixth inning. Olivia Homan and Rachel Thien led off the inning with consecutive singles. After a ground out, Hannah Knapke walked, and Devin Post drew free pass with bases loaded to bring in Homan as the Tribe’s only run.
Post added a single, as the Indians mustered only three hits in the game. Taylor Grisez also reached on a walk.
Homan took the loss. She allowed four runs — one earned — while striking out two and walking one. She gave up six hits in six innings of work.
Stars fourth
BLUFFTON — The South Adams boys golf team finished fourth in the Bi-County Meet on Saturday at Timber Ridge Golf Club.
The Bellmont Braves won the six-team tournament with a team score of 329. The Norwell Knights and Bluffton Tigers tied for second with 354, but the Knights edged out the Tigers because of a fifth-golfer tiebreak. South Adams totaled 378.
Jake Rife led the Starfires with an 84, edging teammate David Muselman by two strokes.
Nick Wurster was third on the team with an even 100. Eli Hamrick rounded out the team score for South Adams with 108. J.D. Groh also competed and she carded 114.
Geesaman leads
Joe Geesaman hit a home run, helping Williams Auto Parts to a 13-6 victory over Pak-A-Sak in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball action.
Geesaman went 4-for-4, including a triple and the round-tripper. Dawson Goldworthy had a double and three singles, while Izzy McAbee, Carter Hartman and Danton Hanlin each had three hits.
Alex Miller had two triples in the loss for Pak-A-Sak. Eli Stockton tallied three hits.
Jay Lodge wins two
Jay Lodge 87 swept Graphic Printing in a PJL Minor softball doubleheader on Saturday.
Jay Lodge won the first game 17-7, before a 14-6 victory in game two.
Drew Dressel led Jay Lodge with five hits on the day. Emma Swingley added four hits, with Madison Curtis and Grace Brewster smacking two hits apiece.
Haleigh Clayton, Natalie Miles, Destiny McManis, Jacqueline Smith, Bree Randall and Olivia Bright all had hits for Graphic.
Champ carries Crossroads
Riah Champ had a home run Saturday, carrying Crossroads Financial Federal Credit Union over Fisher Packing 10-5 in PJL’s Minor softball.
Champ added a double and scored twice while driving in seven runs to lead Crossroads. Bralee VanSkyock and Alexa Mock each scored twice, while VanSkyock earned the win pitching.
Fisher stats were not provided.
Dunkirk wins
Dunkirk knocked off Loy’s Realty in PJL’s Sandy Koufax division Saturday.
Austin Curtis had three doubles in leading Loy’s in the defeat. Tarron Bentz and Juan-Pablo Wiggins each went 2-for-3. Daylen Young and Zach Twigg had one hit apiece.
