Starfires bounce back from defeat

PONETO — The Starfires suffered their first loss of the season Thursday.
On Friday, Southern Wells suffered the consequences.
The Class 2A No. 1 South Adams High School softball team pounded on the host Raiders, racking up eight runs in the fourth inning en route to a 13-3, five-inning victory.
Lexie Dellinger led the onslaught for SAHS (17-1, 5-1 Allen County Athletic Conference), which snagged the lead with four runs in the second inning and was up 5-3 before exploding in the fourth. She went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Victoria Raugh also had three hits to go along with two RBIs and a run, Morgan Alberson finished with two, two runs and two RBIs, and Jenna Myers scored three times and drove in a run.
Katelin Augsburger struck out 11 in the win, tossing four innings before Anna Nussbaum took over and struck out the side in the fifth.
Tribe falls
FORT RECOVERY — The Minster Wildcats got all of their runs on one swing of the bat Friday as they knocked off the Fort Recovery baseball team 4-2.
The Indians (13-9, 5-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) were up 1-0 in the midst of a pitchers’ duel with the Wildcats (19-6, 6-3 MAC) before Minster’s Isaac Dorsten blasted a grand slam in the sixth inning. The visitors had two outs before consecutive singles by Jon Niemeyer and Alex Lehmkuhl and a walk from Ben Stubbs loaded the bases for Dorsten.
Fort Recovery got a run back in the bottom of the inning, but could not recover.
Cade Wendel took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits as he went the distance.
Ben Homan led the FRHS offense, going 2-for-3 with a run.
Tigers top JC
Jay County’s softball team fell behind in the first inning and was unable to bounce back Friday in a 5-1 loss to the visiting Bluffton Tigers.
The two runs Bluffton got in the opening frame proved to be enough, though the visitors tacked on a single run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth.
The Patriots got their only run in the seventh inning as Sam Twigg drove in Maggie Pryor. Kensey Litton also had a hit.
Kaylee Inman suffered the loss for JCHS, which dropped to 4-8.

MINSTER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team gave up a pair of first-inning runs and never pulled even in a 4-1 loss Friday to the Minster Wildcats.
Minster added runs in the third and fifth innings for a 4-1 lead before the Indians pushed home their only run in the sixth.
Joe Homan took the loss, giving up three runs — two earned — on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Homan led the Tribe offense, going 2-for-3. Garrett Faller scored the team’s only run on a double by Josh Muhlenkamp.
