Homan is MAC player of the year
Seven other Tribe players get MAC honors
FORT RECOVERY — Will Homan was a big reason why the Indians tied for third in the conference.
He single-handedly put them in the playoffs, too.
Thursday, he was rewarded accordingly.
Homan, a Fort Recovery High School senior running back, was named Midwest Athletic Conference offensive player of the year.
This is the first time Fort Recovery has earned MAC player of the year honor on either side of the ball. Seven other Tribe players also received all-conference honors on Thursday.
After setting the school record for yards in a season as a junior with 1,805 in 13 games, Homan obliterated that mark with 2,267 yards on 250 attempts (9.1 yards per carry) in just 10 games. He also had 22 touchdowns.
Senior Andrew Stocker was a first team defensive lineman. He was third on the team during the regular season with 61 tackles, while he notched a team-high 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He also has a school record 24 career sacks. The previous mark was 19.5 set by 2016 graduate Adam LeFevre.
Seniors Curt Grube (guard) and Matt Kuess (tackle) were named second team at their respective position.
Earning honorable mention were seniors Ethan Schoen, Cade Wendel and Ryan Braun as well as junior Jack Knapke.
No. 7 seed Fort Recovery opens Division VI Region 24 play against No. 2 seed Marion Local at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Wapakoneta.
