HEBRON, Ohio — Chloe Will didn’t quite reach her goal.

But she’s got fuel for her final year.

Will, a Fort Recovery High School junior, ended her season by finishing 117th in the OHSAA Division III Girls Cross Country State Championship on Saturday at National Trail Raceway.

The Minster Wildcats, who had four finish in the top 10, set a record by scoring 34 points to repeat as state champions. Mount Gilead (131) was a distant second, while McDonald totaled 138 points for third place.

Will, a first-time state qualifier, had a goal of finishing higher than 55th, which was the place of 2014 FRHS graduate Elle Sutter, the last Indian girl to reach the state meet.

Will was sitting in 74th place after the first mile with a split time of 6 minutes, 12 seconds. She fell back 26 places at the second mile with a 7:11.8 split.

She was in a pack with Victoria Snyder of Lincolnview, Sarah Foor of Pettisville, Bella Kellar and Emily Kohlmorgan of Maplewood and Alyssa Holt of Centerburg.

At the finish line, Will edged Holt by four tenths of a second to finish 117th in 21:14.6.

Snyder and Foor were 113th and 114th respectively at 21:14.2, while Kellar (115th) and Kohlmorgan (116th) both finished in 21:14.4.

Minster’s Emma Watcke was the individual champion with her time of 18:38.4.
