Ava Kunkler never got to play for a conference championship in high school.
She propelled her college team to the title match.
Kunkler, a 2016 Jay County High School graduate, had a match-high 12 kills on Wednesday, leading the University of Saint Francis volleyball team upset of top-seeded Marian in the Crossroads League Tournament semifinal.
Fort Recovery graduates Cassidy Rammel (2015) and Kendra Siefring (2016) alsocontributed in the win.
Kunkler was third on the team with 26 attacks and had a .385 hitting percentage. She also had one dig as the fifth-seeded Cougars (14-20) handed Marian (28-4) a 25-20, 25-21, 25-15, the first home sweep of the season for the Knights.
Rammel was third on the team with six kills while also adding 10 digs and a block. Siefring notched five kills, fourblocks and a dig.
In the tournament quarterfinal, Rammel had amatch high 15 kills to go with her 16 digs and four blocks in a 3-1 win over Taylor University.
Kunkler was second with 14 kills while adding five digs and one block. Siefring notched six kills, fiveblocks and four digs.
The Cougars meet Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday in the tournament final.

Led all players in scoring for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team on Friday in an 80-61 victory over Indiana (Pennsylvania).
He was 7-for-13 from the field, including making half of his dozen 3-pointers to finish with 21 points. He also split a pair of free throws, had two assists and grabbed one rebound.
The following day he made a pair of 3-pointers and was 2-for-8 from the field to score six points in a 69-65 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. He chipped in two rebounds and a pair of assists.

Helped the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team open its season with wins over two of the top teams in the nation in the Northern Lakes Insurance tournament.
He was 1-for-3 from the field for two points while grabbing four rebounds in 11 minutes as the Warriors knocked off NAIA Division II No. 2 and defending national champion Union 89-75 on Friday.
A day later, he shot 4-of-6 with two free throws to score 10 points as Indiana Tech defeated No. 3 Saint Francis, 69-65. He also had five rebounds.
On Wednesday, Schwieterman had six rebounds and two points as the Warriors (3-0) defeated Holy Cross 77-68.

Was first in one race and second in another for the Purdue University women’s swim team as it defeated Big Ten rival Iowa on Friday, 176-123.
The sophomore won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2 minutes, 17.27 seconds. She was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.49. Farlow helped the 200 medley relay finish third in 1:43.69 and the 400 freestyle relayplace fifth in 3:30.73.

Had one victory and helped a winning relay for the University of Findlay women’s swim team on Friday in a 165-50 victory over Ohio Wesleyan.
She swam the butterfly leg of the 200-yard medley relay to help the Oilers kick off the meet with a win. She had a split of 27.61 seconds as the quartet had a time of 1 minute, 50.3 seconds.
Klopp had a time of 2:01.99 seconds in the 200 freestyle, and was third in the 200 backstroke in 2:16.96.

Also swam for the University of Findlay women’s swim team’s victory over Ohio Wesleyan.
She edged her twin sister Ashton to finish second in the 200 backstroke in 2 minutes, 15.67 seconds. The freshman helped the 200 medley C relay finish third in 1:58.47, and swam the third leg of the 200 freestyle C relay to place third in 1:48.07.

Cracked the starting lineup for the University of Saint Francis women’s basketball team in a pair of victories.
The freshman had a career-high 10 points on Saturday in a 67-45 win over Cornerstone University. She was 3-of-6 from the field and made all four of her free throws while adding six rebounds, oneassist and a steal.
She made both of her shots from the field and half of her four free throws to finish with six points as the Cougars (3-1) had a 73-63 win Friday over Aquinas. She also had six rebounds and two assists.

Reached double figures in scoring for the Brescia University women’s basketball team as it defeated St. Mary-of-the-woods 100-89 on Saturday.
She was 3-of-6 from the field, made one 3-pointer and three of her four free throws to score 10 points. She grabbed eight rebounds, had a team-high six assists and five steals for the Bearcats.
Dunn had six points, and two rebounds before fouling out on Tuesday as the Bearcats (1-1) lost to Lindsey Wilson.

Matched a career-high in scoring for the University of Rio Grande on Monday in a 74-65 victory over Madonna.
She was 7-for-12 from the field and missed her only free throw as she was third on the team in scoring with 14 points. She also finished second with seven rebounds to go with her four steals and two assists.
On Saturday, the sophomore had four points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal as the Red Storm (1-1) opened its season with an 80-65 win over Northwestern Ohio.

Shared the team-high in kills for the Wright State University volleyball team on Friday in a 3-1 loss toUniversity of Illinois-Chicago.
She had a dozen kills while adding one block and a dig. The freshman followed that with seven kills and two digs on Saturday in a 3-0 loss at Green Bay.
On Wednesday, Barcus added eight kills and one dig as the Raiders (10-18, 4-11 Horizon League) swept Youngstown State.

Helped the University of the Cumberlands women’s swim team on Nov. 2 in a 140-91 victory over Centre College.
She was fourth in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events with 26.16 seconds and 58.77 seconds respectively.
Smeltzer then helped the 400 freestyle relay team win with a time of 3 minutes, 40.96 seconds. She swam the third leg in 56.22 seconds.

Was in the top four three times for the Ball State University women’s swim team on Saturday as the Cardinals lost twice in a double dual meet with Toledo and Oakland.
Bader was fourth in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly with her times of 58.17 seconds and 2 minutes, 8.59 seconds respectively. She also placed fourth in the 400 individual medley in 4:38.94.
Bader teamed with cousin Anne Vormohr in helping the 200 medley B relayplace fifth in 1:49.03. She swam the freestyle leg in 24.44 seconds.

Earned a pair of fifth-place finishes on Saturday for the Ball State women’s swim team.
She had times of 24.43 seconds and 53.58 seconds respectively in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races. She swam the backstroke leg of the 200 medley B relay in 27.47 seconds. Vormohr anchored the 400 freestyle relay that was fourth in 3:36.92.

Opened his collegiate wrestling career by going 2-2 on Sunday at the Michigan State Open.
In his 165-pound opening-round match, he got pinned by Antwon Pugh of Notre Dame (Ohio) with 17 seconds left in the first period.
After a pair of forfeits, Leonhard lost a major decision, 12-2, to Kam Bush of Central Michigan.

Competed for the Indiana Tech women’s cross country team in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Goodwin was 48th overall and sixth on the team with her time of 20 minutes, 45.6 seconds.
