BERNE — The Starfires got little resistance from the Giants.

South Adams High School’s girls swim team won all 11 contested events Tuesday in a 117-38 victory over the Marion Giants.

Bella Bailey, Olivia Von Gunten and Ashley LeFever each won three events and helped a pair of relays to lead the Starfires.

Bailey was first in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke races. Von Gunten handled the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, while LeFever won the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

The three of them joined Isabel Von Gunten — she won the 100 freestyle — for victories in both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Amara Mikesell picked up a win in the 100 backstroke before teaming with Hannah Hinshaw, Julia Grabau and Hannah Neuenschwander to win the 400 freestyle relay.

SA girls beat Leo

BERNE — The South Adams girls basketball team rode an early advantage to a 35-32 victory Tuesday against the Leo Lions.

South Adams (3-1) jumped out to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter before taking a 25-10 lead into halftime. A sluggish performance in the third quarter allowed Leo (2-3) to get within striking distance, 27-18, before the Lions outscored the Starfires 14-8 in the fourth quarter but came up short.

Lexi Dellinger and Madi Wurster scored 13 and 12 points respectively for South Adams against its former Allen County Athletic Conference opponent. Shaelynn Bowman and Sydney Pierce both had three points while Calyssa Lehman and Lydia Loshe contributed two points each.

Loshe totaled nine points for the junior varsity team, which lost 48-30. Madi Smith added seven points.
