WINCHESTER — The Chiefs were down 11 at the half.
Gavin Muhlenkamp helped propel them to a win.
Muhlenkamp scored 20 points Monday as the East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team edged host Driver 46-42.
The seventh grade team lost, 36-28.
Gavin Myers and Adam Muhlenkamp had seven points a piece in support of Gavin Muhlenkamp. Ethan Dirksen scored six points while Adrek Pogue and Tarron Bentz both had two points. The Chiefs moved to 3-0.
Bennett Weitzel poured in 19 points in the loss for the EJMS seventh graders (1-2). Carter Link contributed five points as Dusty Pearson and Dawson Hundley chipped in two points apiece.
Two lead Eagles
DUNKIRK — Quinn Faulkner and Camdin Harrison carried the West Jay eighth grade boys basketball team to a 40-24 victory over Woodlan on Monday.
The seventh grade squad was at the wrong end of a 60-17 margin.
Faulkner scored a dozen points and Harrison added 11. Trenton Alexander scored nine points, Kess McBride finished with six points and Nick Street had two points.
Spencer Caldwell was the leading scorer for the WJMS seventh graders as he totaled eight points. Gabe Goodspeed’s five points was second, and Kaleb Meadows chipped in two points.
Chiefs fall in OT
East Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team lost in overtime Monday, 38-36 to the Winchester Driver Hawks.
The seventh grade team also lost, 45-24.
Madison Dirksen had 13 points to lead the eighth grade squad, which got nine points from Jayden Claytor, six from Heaven Hambrock, four from
Rachel Muhlenkamp and two apiece from Abby Elzey and Andrea Jutte.
Olivia Waters scored a dozen points to lead the seventh graders. Renna Schwieterman tallied eight points as Lydia Keihn and Maddy Wenk both had two points.
Stars split
BLUFFTON — The South Adams seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams split with the Bluffton Tigers on Monday.
The eighth grade team won 35-34, and the seventh grade team lost 43-22.
Aidan Wanner and Trey Schoch had 13 and 12 points respectively for the eighth graders. Kaleb Stevens contributed seven points, and Conner Young had two points.
Matt Steiner led the seventh grade team with eight points, and Josh Amstutz finished with five points. Brady Beall had four points, Gavin Myers scored three and Hunter Kongar added two points.
