All seven Chief runners finished in the top 10.

It resulted in a dominating victory.

The East Jay Middle School boys cross country team finished first in a three-team meet with West Jay and Woodlan on Tuesday at Hudson Family Park.

The Chiefs totaled 26 points, ahead of Woodlan (44) and West Jay (68).

Woodlan won the girls race with 17 points. East Jay was second with 25 and West Jay totaled 57 for third.

Tony Wood led the EJMS boys as he finished second in 12 minutes, 14 seconds. Cameron Clark and Dustin Harris were fourth and fifth respectively, as Nico Minnich, Tyler Manor, Thomas LeMaster and Sebastian Solis were seventh through 10th.

Aaron Funkhouser was the lead West Jay runner and finished sixth in 13:06. Trenton Alexander was 12th, while Isaiah Weekley, Skyler Bee and Jackson Edwards finished 18th through 20th.

In the girls race, Lydia Keihn and Mara Bader were first and second respectively. Keihn won with a time of 13:03. Lindy Wood was fourth, Rachel Heitkamp finished seventh and Azalea Smith placed 11th.

Raven Weaver was the top West Jay competitor, and she was third in 14:35. Makinsey Murphy and Elizabeth Dollar were eighth and ninth respectively. Aubri Hatzell placed 18th, and Taran was 20th.




Chief spikers split

The East Jay volleyball teams split with the visiting Woodlan Warriors on Tuesday.

East Jay’s eighth graders won 25-24, 25-17, and the seventh graders fell 21-25, 25-15, 15-4.

Madison Dirksen had five kills to lead the EJMS eighth graders, and Madison Jetmore was second on the team with four kills. Kylie Klopfenstein and Raylin Chaffins had three kills each.

Grace Brewster’s eight digs was tops on the team, as Maddy Wenk, Hannah Muhlenkamp and Dirksen had three digs each. Jayden Clatyor totaled four aces and Wenk tallied a dozen assists.

Laci McGinnis and Grace Barnett had three kills each for the EJMS seventh graders. Kylee Cross and Barnett had three aces each, and McGinnis added one dig.

 
Patriots beat Jets

MONROE — The Jay County middle school Patriot football teams both defeated host Adams Central on Tuesday.

The eighth graders won 38-7, and the seventh grade squad won 20-12.

Tarron Bentz had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the eighth graders, and Caleb Hale found the end zone on a 50-yard run. Quinn Faulkner scored on a rushing TD and threw a touchdown pass to Dylan Knapschafer.

For the seventh graders, Mason Ludy had 125 yard rushing and two touchdowns, and Josh Dowlen also had a rushing TD.

Kadin Ridenour had 11 tackles and a sack to lead the Chiefs.

Both teams improve to 2-0 on the year.



Stars win

BLUFFTON — The South Adams seventh and eighth grade football teams knocked off the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday.

The eighth graders won 20-8, and the seventh grade team won 14-0 in two quarters of play.

Aidan Wanner took the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown, ad also had a 23-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to lead the SAMS eighth graders. Trey Schoch also had a rushing score in the third quarter. Wanner finished with 80 rushing yards and added 73 more through the air.

Maverick Summerset scored both touchdowns for the seventh grade Starfires. He reached the end zone from 9 and 12 yards out. He finished with 117 yards rushing on seven carries.



Tribe falls to ’Skins

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams lost their first match of the year on Tuesday at the hands of St. Henry.

The eighth graders lost 25-18, 18-25, 25-19, and the seventh graders fell 17-25, 25-9, 25-19.

Whitley Rammel had six kills to lead the FRMS eighth graders (4-1, 1-1 Midwest Athletic Conference). Grace Guggenbiller was second on the team with four kills. Marissa Gaerke, Melissa Laux and Lilie Leuthold had three kills apiece. Aubrey Knapke totaled seven digs, and  Madelyn Knapke had 14 service points and a dozen assists.

Brookelyn Jutte tallied 10 kills to lead the seventh grade Indians (4-1, 1-1 MAC). Grace Klingshirn was second on the team with eight kills, and Taylor Will and Abby Knapke had six kills each.

Audra Bubp recorded 10 digs, Faith Wendel had 13 assists and Allysen Fullenkamp tallied 11 assists.
