BERNE — It’s been nearly two years since the Starfires lost a regular-season conference match.
The Tigers represented just another tally in the win column.
South Adams High School’s volleyball team swept the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19. With the win, the Starfires move to 10-3 on the year and 2-0 in Allen County Athletic Conference play, having won each of their last nine regular-season conference tilts.
The last time South Adams lost was Oct. 1, 2015, to Adams Central.
Madi Wurster and Addie Wanner led SAHS with 11 and nine kills respectively. Wanner also added five digs and four blocks, while Wurster had seven digs, three aces and a pair of blocks.
Lydia Loshe and Shaelyn Bowmann chipped in four kills each. Julia Grabau and Ayla Rosswurm added seven digs, as Grabau totaled 24 assists.
South Adams’ junior varsity team also won, 25-13, 25-16. Gabriella Bailey had four kills, and Hannah Beitler was second with three kills. Bailey also led the team with six digs, and Josie Grabau had 11 assists.
Tribe falls to ’Skins
ST. HENRY — Fort Recovery’s volleyball team lost for the first time this season, dropping a 26-24, 25-19, 25-17 to the St. Henry Redskins.
Carley Stone led the Indians (6-1, 0-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) with 12 kills. She was second on the team with eight digs. Paige Jutte was second on the team with six kills.
Madi Rammel and Cassy Martin both had four kills, and Martin’s five blocks were tops on the team.
Kelsey Jutte and Kiah Wendel had nine digs each, and Rammel had 18 assists.
Hannah Knapke and Alexis Bubp finished with eight and seven digs respectively.
Stars edge Falcons
WINCHESTER — South Adams’ girls golf team edged the Winchester Golden Falcons on Thursday, 202-208, at Winchester Golf Club.
Kaiti Gorrell led the Starfires (11-2) with a 46, including making par three times. She was even on the par-3 second, par-4 third and par-4 ninth holes.
Becah Schwartz made par once on her way to a 50, and Claire Sutton was two strokes behind with 52. Katie Stiltner rounded out the SAHS team total with a 54.
Allyson Schwrtz and Millie Gaskill also competed but did not factor into the team score. Schwartz shot 58, including a birdie on the par-3 eighth, and Gaskill ended with 60.
