Patriot, Starfire football teams split games
Middle school roundup
BERNE — The Patriot seventh graders pitched a shutout.
Aidan Wanner led the eighth grade Starfires to a blowout win.
The South Adams Middle School and Jay County middle school football teams split their games on Tuesday.
Jay County won the seventh grade contest 36-0, and the South Adams eighth graders won 52-11.
Mason Ludy had 90 rushing yards and two touchdowns to pace the Jay County’s seventh graders. Kadin Ridenour, Josh Dowlen and Dawson Hundley also had rushing touchdowns. Hundley returned an interception for a touchdown as well.
Wanner scored three rushing TDs and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Trey Schoch in leading the SAMS eighth graders. Wanner totaled 128 rushing yards and 66 passing yards. Schoch also had a two rushing touchdowns, while Uriel Hernandez scooped a fumble and returned it 26 yards for a TD.
Quinn Faulkner had the lone touchdown for Jay County, and Christian Marentes booted a 32-yard field goal.
Tribe spikers win
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams Tuesday both defeated the Versailles Tigers.
The eighth grade team won 25-19, 25-10, and the seventh grade squad won 25-11, 22-25, 25-8.
Marissa Gaerke paced the FRMS eighth graders with nine kills, and Melissa Laux was second with six. Whitley Rammel tallied five kills. Rammel tallied six aces on her way to 12 service points, and Madelyn Rammel recorded 13 assists. Aubrey Knapke finished with a dozen digs.
Audra Bubp and Sophie Pearson led the FRMS seventh graders with five and four kills respectively. Faith Wendel tallied team highs in assists (15) and aces (eight).
Chiefs beat Panthers
East Jay’s boys and girls cross country teams defeated a depleted Southside Panther squad Tuesday at Hudson Family Park.
The boys had the top five spots for a perfect score of 15. The girls totaled 16 points.
Southside only had one runner on each team.
Tony Wood led the boys by winning with a time of 12 minutes, 11 seconds. Cameron Clark (12:40) was second, Dustin Harris (12:41) placed third, Sebastian Solis (12:44) finished fourth and Thomas LeMaster (12:51) was fifth.
Lydia Keihn had a time of 13:32 to win the girls race. Mara Bader (14:17), Rachel Heitkamp (14:18) and Lindy Wood (14:44) were second through fourth respectively. Olivia Waters (16:07) finished sixth.

The B teams played only two sets. East Jay won the first 25-20, while South Adams won the second 25-24.
Riah Champ and Brenna Haines had two kills to lead the EJMS A team. Sophie Saxman contributed three digs. Haines had eight service points and two aces, while Maggie Dillon and Bralee VanSkyock also had two aces.
Kenzie Landon (two) and Madison Reier (one) had the only kills for the Chief B team. Tessa Miller tallied four aces on her way to seven points. Kylie Davidson had three points, all of which were aces. Trinity Koons, Ava Daniels and Landon all had two aces as well.
