CULVER — The Starfire girls were back near the top of the standings.

South Adams High School’s girls cross country team finished second Saturday in the closed division of the Culver Academies Invitational.

The Starfires totaled 142 points to finish second out of 35 teams. They edged Cardinal Ritter on a sixth-runner tiebreaker. West Lafayette won with a score of 64.

South Adams’ boys team totaled 379 to place 12th. West Lafayette totaled 52 points to sweep the races. Illiana Christian (Illinois) was second with 105 points and Kouts was third with 142.

Eliza Harruff led the Starfire girls by placing 19th in 21 minutes, 5.07 seconds. Olivia Von Gunten was three spots behind her in 21:21.9, and Megan Miller placed 31st in 21:52.7.

Kallee Patch finished 36th with her time of 22:12.1, and Calyssa Lehman completed the SAHS team score by placing 42nd in 22:25.5. Hadi Hawbaker, the No. 6 runner for the Starfires, was 44th in 22:35.5, breaking the tie with Cardinal Ritter.

Wyatt Miller was the lead Starfire boy, finishing in 18:08 for 23rd. Luke Gerber crossed the finish line in 19:21.7 for 66th. Clancy McIntire was 97th in 19:56.6, Trey Lehman placed 100th in 19:58.1 and Kamden Yoder was 119th in 20:27.1.

Also running for the SAHS girls were Isabel Von Gunten (84th) and Acacia Anderson (108th). For the boys were Dario Banuelos (157th), Korbin Dunnuck (188th) and Aidan Von Gunten (209th).



Middle school

McKenzie Sturwold finished third in leading the South Adams girls squad to an eighth-place finish with 259 points.

Benjamin Franklin scored 79 for first out of 36 teams. Edgewood (100) and Rensselaer Central (159) were second and third respectively.

The SAMS boys were 14th out of 35 teams with 420 points. Morgan Township (92 points), West Lafayette (156) and Hanover Central (170) were the top three teams.

Sturwold had a time of 11:43.2 as the lead Starfire. Nia Litwiller crossed 49th in 12:49, Mia Singleton was 57th in 12:55.7, Ella Neuenschwander finished 81st in 13:12.8 and Mirra Mata was 82nd in 13:13.7.

Race Anderson was 15th in 10:57.6 to lead the SAMS boys. Owen Wanner was 50th in 11:28.6, Brady Fox finished 73rd in 11:42.0, Isaac Gorrell placed 128th in 12:08.7 and Tyler Goforth was 189th in 12:46.8.

Also running for the SAMS girls were Addisyn Hunley (105th), Jocelyn Willis (137th), Elizabeth Gerber (174th), Hailey Wendel (254th) and Clancy Hawbaker (283rd). Oscar Vasquez (254th) competed as well for the SAMS boys.
