The Patriots had as much trouble with the Warriors as their varsity counterparts did Friday.

Jay County High School’s junior varsity football team got shut out Monday, 27-0, by the visiting Woodlan Warriors.

Woodlan scored six points in each of the first two quarters for a 12-0 lead against the Patriots (3-3), before adding eight and seven points respectively in the third and fourth periods.

Bailey Cox and Rylee Huftel had 54 and 43 rushing yards respectively to lead JCHS. Landon Grimes completed two of his 11 pass attempts, one to Elijah Corwin for 27 yards and the other a 30 yarder to Cox.

Austin Schlosser led the defense with 10 tackles and three sacks.



Chief spikers fall

SELMA — East Jay Middle School’s sixth grade volleyball teams both lost on Monday to Selma.

The A squad lost 25-20, 25-24, while the B team fell 23-25, 25-14, 15-11.

Isabella Denton, Bralee VanSkyock, Brenna Haines and Joskie Herndon each had a kill for the A team. Maggie Dillon had five aces on her way to six points, while she and VanSkyock both had one assist.

For the B squad, Tessa Miller tallied the only kill. She also had four points and two aces. Kenzie Landon led the team with three aces, as Hannah Laux and Ava Daniels also had two aces.
