Jay County High School’s boys soccer team scored twice in the second half to beat the Liberty Christian Lions on Thursday, 2-1.
Daniel Fugiett and Derrian Riojas both scored for the Patriots (5-6-3), who have now won the first two games of their three-game homestand to end the regular season.
Jay County hosts Oak Hill at 10 a.m. Saturday before beginning sectional play against Yorktown at 7 p.m. Tuesday at New Castle.
Another hat trick
MUNCIE — Junior Kendra Muhlenkamp notched her fifth hat trick of the season Thursday, leading the Jay County girls soccer team to a 6-1 win over the Muncie Central Bearcats.
Muhlenkamp, who leads the team with 25 goals and had her seventh multi-goal game, put the Patriots (10-3) out front just 2 minutes in. Eight minutes later she notched her second tally of the game on an assist from Karlie Bullard.
At the midway point of the half, Muhlenkamp completed her hat trick to put JCHS out front, 3-0.
Anhley Montes, a sophomore, scored twice for her first career two-goal game, and Mikele Suman recorded her second goal of the year.
Shelby Caldwell made six saves in net.
Jay County opens sectional play at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Hamilton Heights at Yorktown.
Chiefs sweep Tigers
BLUFFTON — The East Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams on Thursday both defeated the Bluffton Tigers in two sets.
The EJMS eighth graders won 25-11, 25-17, while the seventh grade squad earned a 25-12, 25-23 victory.
Madison Dirksen led the eighth grade Chiefs (11-4) with six kills. She also had three aces. Madison Jetmore’s three kills were second on the team, as Rayln Chaffins and Kylie Klopfenstein both had two kills. Maddy Wenk totaled 10 assists and eight points, and Jayden Claytor contributed five points.
Laci McGinnis paced the seventh graders (5-9) with four kills while adding two digs and a pair of aces. Lauren Brewster had team highs in digs (five) and service points (five). Gracie Brewster’s six aces were tops on the team.

East Jay’s sixth grade volleyball teams both defeated RJ Baskett on Thursday.
The A squad earned a 25-12, 25-28 win, as the B team picked up a 25-23, 25-21 victory.
Bralee VanSkyock had three kills to pace the A team, which also got two kills apiece from Brenna Haines and Sophie Saxman. Haines also had five aces on her way to six service points, and Riah Champ totaled eight points to lead the team.
Kenzie Landon recorded three kills for the B squad. Madison Reier had two kills to finish second on the team. Paityn Chapman had seven service points, all of which were aces, while Reier contributed five points and four aces.
