MARION — Ryan Schlechty is at his best when pitching against the Panthers.

Schlechty, a Jay County High School junior, threw a no-hitter Tuesday in leading the Patriot baseball team to a 10-0 victory in five innings against host Eastbrook Panthers.

It was the second career no-hitter for Schlechty, who also kept the Panthers without a hit as a sophomore.

The right-hander faced three over the minimum, striking out nine and walking two. He needed only 78 pitches, 50 of which he threw for strikes.

At the plate, he also had one hit, an RBI, a run and a walk.

Jay County (2-1) scored all 10 of its runs in the fifth inning.

Cole Stigleman led the Patriots with three hits and two RBIs, while Wyatt Geesaman had two doubles and Daniel Fugiett got the first two hits of his career.

Max Moser drove in a pair of runs as he extended his hitting streak to 21 consecutive games.

FR softball wins big

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s softball team moved two games above .500 Tuesday as it beat St. Henry 11-1 in five innings.

Fort Recovery scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning before tacking on two in the second and one in the third. By the time St. Henry ended the shutout with a run in the top of the fourth inning, the Indians were already ahead 6-0. But they weren’t done, as FRHS added three more in the home half of the fourth before completing the run-rule victory with two runs  in the fifth.

Olivia Homan and Rachel Thien both had a double and a single for Fort Recovery, as Lydia Wenning also had a two-hit day. Bailee Tebbe drove in three runs.

Homan allowed one run on two hits over five innings. She struck out two and walked one.
