BERNE — Playing at home for the first time, the Starfires kept their streak going.
The South Adams High School softball team remained unbeaten Thursday with a 5-0 win over the New Haven Bulldogs.
South Adams (3-0) nabbed a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the second inning as Alivia Bergman scored on a fly out and Jenna Myers crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice.
The Starfires added to their lead with three runs in the home half of the sixth inning.
Lexi Dellinger had two hits to lead South Adams, which also got singles form Kayla LeFever, Emilie Hammell and Myers.
Anna Nussbaum pitched the shutout, allowing just two hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven.
Stars lose first game
NEW HAVEN — The South Adams baseball team couldn’t keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in an 18-8 loss Thursday to New Haven in five innings.
South Adams (4-1), which is ranked fourth in Class 2A, fell behind 2-0 after the first inning and entered the third trailing 7-2. New Haven led 11-4 after three, before staking a 15-7 advantage heading into the fifth.
Isaiah Baumgartner had a single, a double and drove in three runs for South Adams, which totaled five doubles. Keegan Yoder had a double and a single, and Braden Baumer finished with two hits as well. Grant Besser, Collin Shaffer and Joe Stuber all hit doubles.
Mark Clary suffered the loss, as he gave up 11 runs — 10 earned — on nine hits in three innings. He walked six and struck out three.
SA falls to Knights
OSSIAN — Julia Grabau and Hannah Dull each won their respective matches but it wasn’t enough as the South Adams girls tennis team lost to Norwell on Thursday, 3-2.
Grabau, the Starfires’ No. 2 player, dropped her first set to Molly Burton 6-1, but rallied to take the next two 6-2, 7-5. At No. 3 singles, Dull knocked off Grace White 6-3, 6-1.
South Adams’ No. 1 singles player, Haley Gerber, lost to Breann Barger 6-0, 6-2.
Both doubles teams for the Starfires lost by a 6-3, 6-3 margin. Breanna Potts and Jade Farlow dropped their No. 1 doubles match to Madison Oakes and Sadie Mann, while Katrina Fosnaugh and Cassie Yoder lost to Abby Hoover and Ashley Xayyachack at No. 2 doubles.
The South Adams junior varsity team also lost, 6-2.
Stars place second
FARMLAND — The South Adams boys golf team placed second Thursday in a three-team meet with Monroe Central and Union City at Hickory Hills Golf Club.
Host Monroe Central won the match with 180, and South Adams shot 221 for second. Union City was third with 230.
David Muselman led the Starfires as he carded a 44. Eli Hamrick shot 52 to finish second on the team, and Blaine Harruff was third with 60.
Spencer Fear rounded out the team total with 65.
Travis Clingenpeel also competed but he did not factor into the Starfires’ score. He shot 84.

BERNE — The South Adams junior varsity baseball team lost to Bellmont on Thursday, 7-2.
The Braves scored five runs in the first inning, then added one more in each of the next two frames. South Adams (2-1) had a run in the third and fifth innings.
Luke Yoder had a pair of hits for the Starfires, who also got a double and two walks from Jason Arnold.
Adam Besser, Aaron Timmons and Alex Gorney each had singles.
