HUNTINGTON — The Patriots were in a one-run hole after the first inning.

Jay County High School’s softball team dipped to 1-2 on the year Friday with a 5-2 loss to former sectional rival Huntington North Vikings.
The Patriots scored twice in the top of the first inning, but committed costly errors that allowed the Vikings to stake a 3-2 advantage.
Jay County had difficulty stringing together consecutive hits to even the score, and Huntington North added two insurance runs in the home half of the fifth inning.
Kensey Litton had two singles and a pair of stolen bases for the Patriots who also got a couple singles and an RBI from Sam Twigg. Emily Corn notched a single and an RBI while Chloe Trissel also had a hit.
Rhegan Shimp suffered the loss pitching, and she falls to 1-1 on the year.
Tribe blanks Knights
DAYTON, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team surrendered just two hits Saturday in a 10-0 victory in five innings against the Kettering Archbishop Alter Knights at Fifth Third Field, home of the Dayton Dragons.
Fort Recovery (9-3) jumped out front 1-0 in the home half of the first inning, and pushed the advantage to 4-0 one inning later. The Tribe broke the game open with a five-spot in the third inning and completed the scoring with one more run in the fourth.
Kody Shinabery led the Indians in hitting as he had three singles to go along with two runs. Cade Wendel notched three runs, while Nick Thwaits had a double, an RBI and a pair of walks. Reese Rogers also had a single.
Ben Homan got the win, allowing two hits over three innings. He walked two and struck out two before giving way to Riley Post, who fanned two and walked one in two hitless innings.
Pair are All-Americans
LANSING, Michigan, and COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — A pair of local wrestlers earned All-America honors recently based on their finishes at national tournaments.
Tony Wood, a 12-year-old sixth grader at East Jay Middle School, finished 3-1 in the 76-pound weight class in the National United Wrestling Association for Youth (NUWAY) Nationals on April 7 in Lansing, Michigan. Wood pinned his way to the championship match, where he dropped a 6-2 decision to Kolten Barker of Ohio to become national runner-up.
Saturday and Sunday in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Cameron Clark had a 7-1 record as part of Team Indiana-Blue at the Heartland National Duals. Clark, a 100-pound, 12-year-old sixth grader at East Jay, was named Most Valuable Wrestler for his team. He earned three pins and two major decisions, and his only loss was a 6-3 decision during the first match of the tournament.
