MIDLAND, Mich. — Luis Campusano hit a tie-breaking single in the eighth inning Monday, guiding the Fort Wayne TinCaps to a 3-1 win over the Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond.
The TinCaps (7-11), who have won three straight games, got the eighth inning started as Jeisson Rosario led off the frame with a walk. Two batters later, Tirso Ornelas hit a double to center to give Fort Wayne runners on second and third.
Campusano, an 18-year-old from Augusta, Georgia, singled home the eventual game-winning runs as he raised his average to .295 and has now hit safely in five consecutive games.
Campusano led the TinCaps with two hits, as Gabriel Arias and Tre Carter also contributed singles.
Great Lakes (3-12) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before Fort Wayne responded immediately in the second. Carlos Belen walked before he reached second on a balk and third on a groundout. Justin Lopez, who is just 17 years old, tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
Caleb Boushley threw 3 2/3 strong innings of relief to get the first victory of his TinCaps’ tenure. He allowed two hits and struck out a pair.
Nick Margevicius started for Fort Wayne, allowing one earned run on four hits. He struck out seven and walked five.
Left-hander Aaron Leasher will toe the rubber tonight as the TinCaps play the second of a three-game set at Great Lakes. He’ll square off against Jesus Vargas. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
