FORT WAYNE — The TinCaps were able to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning.
But it grew in the seventh, and then the rains came.
Precipitation halted the chance for a complete rally as the Fort Wayne TinCaps lost 5-4 in a rain-shortened game against the Lansing Lugnuts on Monday at Parkview Field.
After leading 2-0 heading to the sixth inning, Fort Wayne (19-24, 51-61) lost the lead on an RBI?single from Samad Taylor and a passed ball. Later in the frame, Lansing (24-20, 67-47) scored runs on a wild pitch and a Reggie Pruitt single for a 4-2 advantage.
In the bottom of the frame, Nick Feight doubled home Gabriel Arias and Kelvin Melean knocked in Feight to tie the game at four apiece.
Another passed ball put the Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) on top 5-4 in the seventh inning before a rain delay halted play in the eighth. Thirty-five minutes later the game was officially called.
Jack Suwinski, who had an RBI?single in the third inning, pushed his hitting streak to seven games. Arias finished with a pair of doubles, and Jeisson Rosario also had a two-base hit.
TinCap starting pitcher Luis Patiño threw five scoreless innings before losing touch in the sixth. He scattered three hits, gave up one earned run, struck out eight and walked one.
