RICHMOND — Hannah Phillips had three goals her entire junior year.
She nearly matched that total in the first game as a senior.
Phillips, a Jay County High School senior, scored twice, but her effort wasn’t enough as the Patriot girls soccer team dropped the season opener 4-3 to the host Richmond Red Devils.
Phillips put the Patriots (0-1) on the board in the first half as the game was tied 1-1 at intermission. Kendra Muhlenkamp, also a senior, and Phillips tallied second-half goals, but the Red Devils tacked on three after the break to get the win.
Jay County opens its home and slate Thursday against the Heritage Patriots.
