MUNCIE — The Patriots were just about even with the Eagles during the first set.
The visiting team struggled the rest of the way.
The Jay County High School volleyball team lost the opening set by just three points, but eventually got swept by the Class 3A No. 2 Delta Eagles on Thursday, 25-22, 25-13, 25-8.
Olivia Kunkler’s five kills were tops on the team for the Patriots (3-3), who had just 13 kills for the entire match. Alana Kunkler contributed four kills, and Hallie Fields chipped in two.
Alana Kunkler had a team-high two blocks, while Kailee Denney led all of her teammates with 12 digs and nine assists.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also lost, 25-14, 25-13.
Madison Dirksen notched two kills, Pacie Denney had five assists and Grace Brewster, Ralyn Chaffins and Kylie Klopfenstein all had three digs.
Jay loses
MONROEVILLE — Jay County’s boys soccer team couldn’t hang on to its one-goal lead at halftime in a 5-3 loss to the host Heritage Patriots.
Jay County (0-2, 0-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) was out front 2-1 at halftime thanks to goals from Daniel Fugiett and Korbin Auker.
Heritage scored four times in the second half.
Derrian Riojas also found the back of the net for Jay County, but the visiting Patriots could not make up the deficit. Ian McCombs and Auker both had an assist.
Jay County’s junior varsity team tied with Heritage 2-2. Brinnin Wasson scored both goals.
Tribe girls 11th
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls golf team finished 11th Thursday in the Celina Golf Invitational at Celina Lynx Golf Club.
Lima Shawnee won the 15-team tournament with a 374. St. Henry was the runner-up at 381 and Versailles totaled 389 for third. Fort Recovery finished at 439.
Jalyn Bruns was the only Tribe golfer to break triple digits as she carded a 99. Shelby Stammen was second on the squad with a 107, and Alli Vaughn shot 113. Devin Jutte completed the team score with 120.
Kendra Dues also competed and her 127 did not factor into the squad’s total.
FR falls to ’Cats
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team lost to Midwest Athletic Conference rival Minster Wildcats on Thursday, 159-211, at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Grant Knapke paced the Indians by shooting 41. Carson Rammel was second on the squad with 52, and Derek Locthefeld was third with 58. Zander Kunkler shot 60 to complete the team total.
AJ Romer’s 82 did not have an effect on the team score.
Minster’s Grant Voisard earned medalist honors by shooting a 1-under par 35.
Stars top Cavs
BERNE — Shaelynn Bowman had a career-high 10 kills in leading the South Adams volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-20, 25-20 victory against the Canterbury Cavaliers on Thursday.
South Adams improves to 4-2 on the year and 2-0 at home.
Gabriella Bailey was second with six kills, and Carlie Sealscott was third with four kills. Bella Bailey posted team-highs in both assists (14) and digs (13).
Josie Grabau contributed eight aces.
