ARCANUM, Ohio — The Indians spread the wealth in beating the Trojans.

Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team used a balanced attack Thursday in sweeping the Arcanum Trojans, 25-15, 25-11, 25-13.

Paige Jutte led the Indians (2-0) with 11 kills, while Cassy Martin and Paige Fortkamp chipped in nine kills apiece. Madi Rammel and Brooke Gaerke both tallied five kills, while Rammel tallied team highs in both assists (26) and digs (16). Martin turned in four blocks, which led the squad.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-16, 25-22. Marissa Gaerke had six kills, and Hope Wendel led the team with 18 assists and six aces.



Bruns lowers score

VAN WERT, Ohio — Jalyn Bruns lowered her career-best score Thursday in leading the Fort Recovery girls golf team to a 213-230 win over the Lincolnview Lancers at Hickory Sticks Golf Club.

Bruns led all players with 43, shaving seven strokes off her previous best score.

Becca Wood was second on the squad with 56, while Shelby Stammen and Alli Vaughn posted matching scores of 57 to complete the team total.

Kendra Dues (66) and Reagan Grieshop (69) also played, but they did not factor into the team total.



Tribe edges Rangers

CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team edged the New Knoxville Rangers on Thursday, 205-206, at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.

Junior Grant Knapke earned match medalist honors by firing a 44, including a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole. He edged the Rangers’ Ray Newton by one stroke to post the lowest score of the match.

Carson Rammel’s 52 was second on the team, and Derek Locthefeld (54) and Blayne Tobe (55) rounded out the team total.

Zander Kunkler finished with 59 and Seth Locthefeld had 65.



Indians fall to Flyers

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery seventh and eighth grade football teams began their respective seasons Thursday with losses to the Marion Local Flyers.

The eighth grade team fell 14-6, while the seventh graders lost 28-20.

Cale Rammel had the lone touchdown for the eighth graders.

Troy Homan scored a pair of TDs and a two-point conversion for the seventh graders. Nate Jutte also had a touchdown.



Spikers drop matches

MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams dropped their season opener to Marion Local on Thursday.

The eighth graders fell 25-23, 25-21, while the seventh graders lost 25-19, 25-20.

Abby Knapke had five kills to lead the eighth graders, and Allysen Fullenkamp contributed four aces.

For the seventh graders, Autumn Jutte led the way with five kills, Mara Pearson had four aces and Tiegen Fortkamp notched six assists.
