BERNE — The Starfires reigned supreme on their home mat.

The host South Adams High School wrestling team went undefeated on Saturday to win the Spencer Haworth Invitational.

The Starfires knocked off Madison-Grant 48-27 and Wapahani 60-21 before edging West Lafayette Harrison 37-34. They earned a 48-33 triumph over Union City before clinching the title with a 54-27 victory over Jay County.

The Patriots beat Snider (45-33), Union City (34-27) and Woodlan (54-27) before losing to Harrison 66-16 and South Adams.

Logan Bauman, Michael Rupp, AJ Dull and Collin Shaffer each went 5-0 on the day for South Adams, which also got 4-1 efforts from Keegan Rich and Andre Hughes.

Conner Young, Austin McKibben and Spenser Clark each finished 3-2.

Dawson Frasher went 4-0 for Jay County, as Derek Potter (3-0) and Ryan Herring (1-0) also finished the day undefeated.

Jayden Maymi ended 4-1, while Lita Chowning and Ramon Bravo were 3-2. 



Tribe loses two

MUNCIE — Fort Recovery’s boys and girls swim teams came up short in a double dual Monday with the Hagerstown Tigers and host Delta Eagles.

The FRHS girls fell to Delta 54-47 and 50-48 to Hagerstown. The Tribe boys lost to Hagerstown 43-32, and to Delta by a 77-19 margin.

Cassy Martin paced the Indian girls with victories in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races. She had times of 25.23 and 55.82 seconds respectively.

Ava Bubp won the 500 freestyle in 6 minutes, 0.98 seconds.

Autumn Burk, Rachel Acheson, Shelby Stammen and Martin teamed to win the 200 medley relay in 2:05.55 while Acheson, Burk, Stammen and Bupb combined for a 200 freestyle relay victory in 1:55.4.

Katie McIntosh-Tobe, Acheson, Bubp and Martin won the 400 freestyle relay in 4:18.75.



Chiefs sweep Indians

UNION CITY — A dozen players scored for the East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team on Monday in a 66-20 thrashing of the host Union City Indians.

The EJMS seventh graders also won, 34-28.

Bennett Weitzel tallied 10 points to lead a balanced effort for the EJMS eighth graders (5-1). Josh Dowlen followed with nine points while Owen Ransom and Dawson Hundley scored eight points apiece. Patrick Hemmelgarn and Dusty Pearson finished with five points each.

Abraham Dirksen led the seventh grade Chiefs with a career-high 14 points. Sam Myers was second on the squad with seven points, and Brayden Collins tallied four points as East Jay improved to 3-3 on the year. 



South Adams falls

BERNE — The South Adams seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both lost to the Heritage Patriots on Monday.

The seventh graders dropped a 32-27 game, and the eighth graders fell 34-15.

Owen Wanner led the seventh graders with 11 points and seven rebounds in the defeat. Oscar Vasquez and Isaac Dee finished with four points each.

Nathan Muselman tallied five points for the eighth graders (2-2, 2-1 ACAC). Matt Steiner and Josh Amstutz collected four points apiece.
