BERNE — The Starfires may have come up short Tuesday, but they’re still undefeated against teams in their own state.

The South Adams High School wrestling team lost for the first time this season, 42-35, to the Parkway Panthers.

At 113 pounds, Logan Bauman of South Adams (6-1) defeated Parker Mihm by decision, and Michael Rupp earned a tech fall over Jordan Feldes at 126 pounds.

AJ Dull pinned Preston Browning at 138 pounds, and Spencer Clark got a pin over William Popp at 220 pounds.

Caleb Augsburger (195) and Andre Hughes (285) earned forfeits.



Stars fall to Cadets

BERNE — South Adams’ boys and girls swim teams both lost to the Concordia Cadets on Tuesday.

The girls fell 104-59, and the boys lost 119-60.

Ashley LeFever won both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with times of 25.45 seconds and 1 minute, 1.07 seconds respectively.

Hannah Neuenschwander had the only other Starfire victory. She had a time of 6:32.15 to win the 500 freestyle.



SA overmatched

WINCHESTER — The South Adams girls basketball team was overmatched on Tuesday in a 75-39 loss to the Winchester Golden Falcons.

The Starfires (3-5) fell behind 24-6 after the first quarter and trailed 42-24 at half. The Class 2A No. 4 Golden Falcons (9-1) outscored the Stars 18-2 in the third quarter to put the game well out of reach heading into the fourth quarter.

Kristen Wynn and Lydia Loshe had eight points each for South Adams, which also got seven points from Madi Smith and six from both Emilee Myers and Shaelynn Bowman.

The Starfires’ junior varsity team also lost, 48-18. Macie Hirschy led the team with 12 points.



Two lead Stars

HARTFORD CITY — Owen Wanner and Conner Fear both scored in double figures to lead the South Adams Middle School seventh grade boys basketball past the Blackford Bruins, 41-22.

The eighth grade Starfires edged the Bruins, 32-30.

Wanner finished with 13 points and Fear chipped in a dozen for the SAMS seventh graders (2-3).

Brock Banter led the eighth graders (3-2) with 14 points. Brady Beall, Kyle Minger and Josh Amstutz all scored four points.
