ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Starfires appeared to be on their way to a loss for the third game in a row.
A strong third quarter prevented a losing streak.
The South Adams High School girls basketball team outscored the host Parkway Panthers 22-5 in the third quarter and carried it into a 60-37 victory on Wednesday.
The Starfires (6-7) jumped out to a 17-11 lead after the first quarter but went into intermission trailing the Panthers (2-7) by two, 25-23. South Adams came out in the third quarter firing offensively with its best quarter of the night as it led 45-30 with one quarter to play.
Emilee Myers led South Adams with 20 points, and Shaelynn Bowman was second with 14 points. Lydia Loshe joined them in double figures with a dozen points, and Kristen Wynn chipped in eight points.
South Adams’ junior varsity team also won, 33-25. Macie Hirschy and Ali Smith both scored eight points.
Fort girls seventh
LIMA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls swim team finished seventh Wednesday in the Lima Holiday Meet at Lima YMCA.
Ottawa-Glandorf won the team championship with 304 points, ahead of Shawnee (266.5) and Celina (227). The Indians totaled 142 for seventh out of 25 teams.
Cassy Martin had the only win for the Tribe as she was first in the 200-yard individual medley with her time of 2 minutes, 21.46 seconds. She was also runner-up in the 100 freestyle.
Ava Bubp placed second in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle, while Autumn Burk was ninth in the 100 butterfly. Shelby Stammen turned in a 10th-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
