FORT RECOVERY — Grace Thien and Val Muhlenkamp combined for 30 points.

The Panthers as a team scored just 21.

Thien and Muhlenkamp scored 15 points apiece Thursday, and Olivia Patch also reached double figures in leading the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team to a 62-21 victory over the Parkway Panthers at Fort Site Fieldhouse.

The Division IV No. 8 Indians (13-3, 6-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 20-4 lead after the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 23 points at halftime. 

A strong third quarter ballooned the home team’s margin to 50-18 heading into the fourth quarter.

Thien made three 3-pointers on her way to 15 points, and Muhenkamp had one triple and six baskets in front of the arc. Patch contributed with 11 points to go with her eight rebounds, and Muhlenkamp hauled in six boards.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 59-12. Paige Fortkamp led the Indians with 15 points, Macey Day tallied 12 points and Hope Wendel tallied 10 points.



SA lose fourth straight

WOODBURN — The South Adams boys basketball team lost for the fourth straight game Thursday in a 65-44 defeat to the host Woodlan Warriors.

The Starfires (4-11, 1-4 Allen County Athletic Conference) was behind 13-6 in the first quarter and fell behind 33-21 at halftime. Woodlan (7-8, 3-1 ACAC) tacked three points on to the lead as the Warriors were out front 50-37 after three quarters of play.

Lars In’t Groen led the Starfires with 15 points, and James Arnold was second with 11 points. They also had six and five rebounds respectively. Spencer Clark tallied nine points as Brandon Newman had a team-high eight rebounds.

Woodlan’s Aaron Hahn had a game-high 19 points.



Chiefs split matches

BERNE AND PARKER CITY — East Jay Middle School’s wrestling teams split a pair of matches this week as it moved to 4-3 on the season.

Monday at Monroe Central in Parker City, the Chiefs beat the Golden Bears 58-42. The Chiefs lost to South Adams 42-31 Thursday in Berne.

Earning victory by pins against Monroe Central were Cameron Clark (100 pounds), Blayne Daniels (120) and Ramon Bravo (175). Winning by decision were Tony Wood (75), Bryce Wenk (125) and Kadin Ridenour (135). Jeremiah Canterbury (95), Patrick Hemmelgarn (105), Blake Huftel (110), Cameron Gage (145) and Mason Ludy (155) received forfeits.

Getting pins against South Adams were Joe Hemmelgarn (195), Wood, Jayden Maymi (110) and Ludy. Daniels won by major decision and Clark won by decision.



EJ sweeps Delta

MUNCIE — The East Jay sixth grade girls basketball teams both defeated the host Delta Eagles on Thursday.

The A team moved to 8-0 with a 24-10 win, while the B squad improved to 3-2 with a 20-4 victory.

Sophie Saxman scored eight points to lead the A team, which also got five points from Hannah Laux, four points from Bralee VanSkyock and three points from Breanna Dirksen. Molly Muhlenkamp and Danielle May finished with two points each.

Bella Denton led the B team with six points. Maggie Dillon and Brenna Haines had four points apiece, while Makayla Brainerd, Skylynn Powell and Joske Herndon all scored two points.



Eagles split with Bruins

DUNKIRK — The West Jay sixth grade boys basketball teams traveled to take on the Blackford Bruins on Thursday and came away with a victory and defeat.

The Eagles’ A team won 42-27, and the B team fell 13-11.

Parker Nichols had 23 points to lead the A team, and Liam Garringer joined him in double figures with 10 points. 

Trevin Dunnington scored four points, Jackson Edwards tallied three points and Ryan Cross contributed two points.

For the Eagle B team, Peyton Lykins led the team with five points. Caleb Dollar and Jason Ayala tallied four and two points respectively.
