Middle school tankers fall to Delta

Jay County won eight of the 12 events on Monday.
The Eagles’ depth helped them win.
The Jay County middle school girls swim team dropped its season opener on Monday with a 146-145 loss to the Delta Eagles.
Jay County’s boys also lost, 175-122.
Mara Bader was a dual winner and helped a pair of relays finish first. She won the 100-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke races. Bader joined Emily Strausburg, Elayna Paro and Emily Dues for a victory in the 200 medley relay, then Avalyne Carter, Paro, Dues and Bader teamed to finish first in the 300 freestyle relay.
Abby Johnson (50 freestyle), Paro (200 freestyle), Carter (50 butterfly) and Strausburg (100 backstroke) won their respective events.
Josh Monroe claimed the only individual victory for the boys as he was first in the 100 breaststroke.
Monroe then joined with Kyle Sanders, Juan Pablo Wiggins and Nico Minnich for a victory in the 300 freestyle relay.
Myers leads East Jay
WINCHESTER — Sam Myers led the East Jay sixth grade boys basketball A team to a 34-33 victory over host Driver on Tuesday.
The B squad fell, 18-15.
Myers poured in 20 points for the A team in the win. Brayden Collins was second with six points as Abraham Dirksen and Justin Dehoff totaled three points apiece. Simon Pryor finished with two points.
Timo Minnich had four points to lead the B team. Ryne Goldsworthy and Luke Vormohr both had three points, as Coen Henry and Ricky Nava tallied two points each. Keegan Hough finished with one point.
Chief girls split
East Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball teams split with the Muncie Northside Titans on Tuesday.
The A team moved to 10-0 with a 26-1 victory. The B team fell 7-2.
Sophie Saxman scored 12 points to lead the A team, which also got four points from Danielle May and Bralee VanSkyock. Molly Muhlenkamp and Hannah Laux contributed two points each as Cash Hollowell and Breanna Dirksen both had one point.
