DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Indians set new program records Saturday.
They earned district berths along the way.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls swim team broke four records and earned district berths in nine events from the Division II Northwest District sectional meet at Ayersville.
Sophie Timmerman was third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 9.86 seconds, which broke her own record by 0.52 seconds. She’ll be seeded sixth for Friday’s district meet at Bowling Green State University.
Timmerman joined Cassy Martin, Alexis Bubp and Paige Fortkamp to set a new school record in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.87, nearly two seconds faster than the previous mark. They were second Saturday, and will be seeded third for the district meet.
Ava Bubp, Alexis Bubp, Timmerman and Martin were fourth in the 200 freestyle relay in a new school record time of 1:43 for a sixth seed at district. The same four placed fourth in the 400 freestyle relay in record fashion at 3:45.68 to be seeded fourth at district.
Alexis Bubp finished fourth in the 100 freestyle and is seeded sixth for the district meet. Martin was fifth in the 50 freestyle and will be the No. 10 seed Friday.
Also earning district berths were Kyra Clark (100 breaststroke – 19th seed, 100 backstroke – 32nd seed), Ava Bubp (200 freestyle – eighth seed, 100 freestyle – 16th seed) and Fortkamp (50 freestyle – 28th seed).
Tribe girls bounce back
NEW MADISON — The Fort Recovery girls basketball team bounced back from a loss Thursday with a 45-40 victory over Division IV No. 10 Tri-Village on Saturday.
The Indians (15-4), who are ranked seventh in the state, led 12-4 after eight minutes and 18-12 at half. The margin stayed at six as both teams scored 15 points in the third quarter, and Fort Recovery was able to hang on in the fourth period for the win.
Grace Thien led all players with 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Val Muhlenkamp joined her in double figures with 10 points, as Kiah Wendel and Carley Stone both chipped in seven points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 48-23. Hope Wendel and Brenna Homan scored 13 and 10 points respectively for the Indians, who also got nine points from Macey Day.

FORT RECOVERY — A solid second half and extra period carried the Fort Recovery boys basketball team to a 65-62 victory over Springfield Northwestern on Saturday at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
The Indians (12-8), who have won four in a row, fell behind by one after the first quarter and 34-25 at half. They trimmed the margin to two points at the end of the third quarter and held a 13-11 edge in the fourth to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Indians made all six of their free throws for the win.
Ryan Braun and Payton Jutte both scored 20 points to lead the Indians. Jutte had a half dozen 3-pointers. Clay Schmitz totaled 14 points in support.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 53-43. Brian Bihn led the Tribe with 15 points and Gavin Thobe contributed 12 points.
Cobe Wendel and Regan Martin contributed nine points each.
