BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Two years ago, Cori Stone was the first Indian swimmer to stand on the district podium.

Last season, a Tribe relay was the first to earn a medal.

The success continued this season.

Fort Recovery High School’s girls swim team had a record-breaking performance Friday as it had three relays and an individual earn medals at the Division II Northwest District meet at Bowling Green State University.

Their performances earned them a berth in the OHSAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, which run Wednesday through Saturday at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

No Indian swimmer had ever reached the state meet.

Cassy Martin, a junior, broke her own school record in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming to a time of 24.52 seconds, besting her previous mark by 0.48 seconds. She finished eighth.

Martin then joined Alexis Bubp, Ava Bubp and Sophie Timmerman in the 400 freestyle relay that was fifth in 3 minutes, 41.88 seconds, breaking their own school record by nearly four seconds.

Alexis Bubp, Paige Fortkamp, Timmerman and Martin finished seventh in the 200 medley relay in 1:53.28, breaking the team record of 1:52.87. The same four finished eighth in the 200 freestyle relay with a new program record time of 1:41.12, nearly two seconds faster than the previous mark.

Other district finishers include Kyra Clark (28th – 100 breaststroke, 30th – 100 backstroke), Ava Bubp (13th – 200 freestyle), Alexis Bubp (19th – 100 freestyle) and Fortkamp (31st – 50 freestyle).
