Sawyer Miller is headed back to the national championships.
Miller, a 2015 South Adams High School graduate, claimed the 125-pound Sooner Athletic Conference championship Saturday, helping the NAIA No. 8 Indiana Tech wrestling team win the first conference title in program history.
By winning the conference title, Miller earned an automatic berth in the national championship tournament March 2 and 3 in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Warrior junior received a bye to the semifinal in the five-athlete bracket. There, he defeated Gabe Gray of Wayland Baptist by an 8-4 decision before a 12-4 major decision over Ray Porter of Lourdes.
Indiana Tech had five individual champions in scoring 208 points. Oklahoma City was a distant second with 136 points, and Bacone (Oklahoma) totaled 109 points for third.
Miller (25-7) was seventh in the nation as a sophomore and an NAIA All-American.
Cady Farlow
South Adams – 2015
Scored for the Purdue University women’s swim team as it finished sixth in the Big Ten Championships that concluded Saturday at Ohio State.
The junior finished 23rd in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes, 15.2 seconds, which earned two points for the Boilermakers and was also an NCAA B standard. She scored one point as she was 24th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.24.
Indiana University junior and Olympic gold medalist Lilly King was first in both events, breaking her own pool record in the process.
Farlow was also 75th in the 50 freestyle.
Michigan won the team title with 1,465 points. Purdue totaled 693.
Ashton Klopp
South Adams – 2017
Earned four top-five finishes for the University of Findlay women’s swim team as it won the inaugural Great Midwest and Mountain East Swimming and Diving Championships that concluded Saturday.
She was third in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. She had a time of 57.27 seconds in the former, and ended the latter in 2 minutes, 9.77 seconds in the latter.
The freshman was also fifth in the 200 backstroke in 2:08:16, along with placing fifth in the 200 IM in 2:10.38.
Findlay scored 1,973 points, and Hillsdale was 650 points behind in second.
Catherine Dunn
Jay County – 2015
Totaled 19 points over two games as theBresica University women’s basketball team split a pair of conference contests.
Dunn was 4-of-10 from the field with one basket from behind the 3-point line and made three of her four free throws to finish tied for second on the team with a dozen points in a 73-55 loss Feb. 15 to Midway. She also had two rebounds, an assist and three steals.
The junior then scored seven points, hauled in five boards and had one assist as the Bearcats (12-18, 8-10 River States Conference) beat IU Southeast on Saturday, 75-55.
Scott Schwieterman
Jay County – 2013
Had his third-highest point total of the season for the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team Wednesday in an 89-69 rout of Siena Heights in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal.
The forward was 8-of-12 from the field and made his only free-throw attempt as he finished with 17 points, second on the team to Dylan Phair’s 20 points. Schwieterman also had two rebounds, an assistand a block.
The NAIA Division II No. 3 Warriors (26-5) play Rochester College at 3 p.m. Saturday in the WHAC tournament semifinal. Indiana Tech beat Rochester twice this season, 83-73 in overtime Jan. 10 and 68-66 on Feb. 3.

Finished with seven points for the University of Rio Grande women’s basketball team in a 76-64 victory over Carlow on Saturday.
Wendel was 2-of-8 from the field and made three of her four free throws as she tied for fifth on the team in scoring. She also had five rebounds, a game-high five assists and two steals for the NAIA Division II No. 21 Red Storm (27-3, 15-2 River States Conference).

Competed for the Miami University men’s track team in the Buckeye Tune-Up on Friday at Ohio State.
The RedHawk senior was ninth inlong jump with a distance of 5.87 meters. He also placed 11th in pole vault (3.92 meters) and 16th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds.

Fort Recovery – 2014
Made half of his field goal attempts to finish with seven points for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team in a 101-64 drubbing of Ohio Valley on Feb. 15.
Kahlig was 3-of-6 from the field with one 3-pointer while also grabbing two rebounds and three assists for the NCAA Division II No. 14 Oilers (24-3, 18-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference).

Scored two points for the University of Saint Francis women’s basketball team on Saturday in a 65-47 win over Bethel.
The freshman didn’t attempt a field goal but made half of her four free throws. She also had three rebounds and an assist as she came off the bench for the Cougars (17-14, 9-9 Crossroads League).

Ran for the Butler University women’s track team Saturday at the Orange & Blue Open at Illinois.
She finished 11th in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 2.69 seconds, edging Raytoria Richardson of Western Illinois by one-hundredth of a second.
Whitney Ward of Illinois State won in 58.33 seconds.
Simon Brumfield

Competed for the Wabash College men’s track team Saturday at the DePauw Indoor Classic.
He was 22nd out of 24 competitors in the shot put with a distance of 8.48 meters. Wittenberg’sD’Anthoney Dorsey placed first at 13.86 meters.
Brumfield placed 23rd in the weight throw out of 27 entries with a distance of 9 meters. Zach Anderson of Illinois Wesleyan won with a throw of 16.86 meters.
The Little Giants scored 99 points to finish second behind DePauw.

Tied for eighth in the shot put for the Taylor University men’s track team Friday atUniversity of Findlay.
The sophomore qualified for the finals out of 41 competitors with a preliminary throw of 14.79 meters. He was not able to build on the distance in the finals and he tied with Evan Coriell of Otterbein for eighth.

Ran for the IPFW women’s track team as it competed in the Ball State Tune-Up on Friday.
The senior was sixth in her heat and 11th overall in the 800-meter run with her time of 2 minutes, 39.42 seconds.
Juliane Sormain of Western Michigan won in 2:17.92.

Made his season debut for the Goshen College baseball team Friday in a five-inning 10-4 loss to Concordia University at Grand Park in Westfield.
The senior tossed two-thirds of an inning in relief during the fifth frame. He allowed a pair of bases-loaded walks before inducing an inning-ending double play.
