DUNKIRK — The Chief boys crossed the county Thursday to take on the Eagles.
They returned to Portland with a pair of victories.
East Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both picked up wins against West Jay.
The eighth grade Chiefs won 41-25, and the seventh graders won 44-16.
Ethan Dirksen led the EJMS eighth graders (8-1, 4-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) with a game-high 19 points, as Tarron Bentz contributed five points. Adrek Pogue and Gavin Myers both chipped in four points. Crosby Heniser tallied three points.
Quinn Faulkner’s 16 points paced West Jay in the defeat. Camdin Harrison was second with six points and Nick Street recorded three points.
Carter Link scored nine points to lead the seventh grade Chiefs (7-2, 5-0 ACAC). Josh Dowlen, Dusty Pearson and Allen Dues all had six points, as Dawson Hundley and Simon Dirksen scored four points apiece.
Skyler Bee and Spencer Caldwell led the Eagle seventh graders (2-8, 0-5 ACAC) with six points. Gabe Goodspeed had four points.
EJ 7th wins
Renna Schwieterman and Olivia Waters carried the East Jay seventh grade girls basketball team to a 46-25 win over the Delta Eagles on Thursday.
The eighth grade Chiefs fell 35-28.
Schwieterman scored 25 points to lead the EJMS seventh graders, who improve to 9-1 on the year. Waters was second on the team with 16 points, and Lydia Keihn had four points.
Madison Dirksen and Heaven Hambrock led the eighth graders (5-5) with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Andrea Jutte scored four points and Rachel Muhlenkamp had a free throw.
Jets sweep Stars
MONROE — The South Adams seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both dropped games to the host Adams Central Jets on Thursday.
Kaleb Stevens paced the SAMS eighth graders (7-3, 4-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) with 10 points to go with his five rebounds.
Trey Schoch was second on the team with seven points and Leo Palomo had three points.
Josh Amstutz recorded five points for the seventh grade Starfires (5-5, 2-3 ACAC). Brady Beal and Kyle Minger had four points each.
