FORT RECOVERY — The Indians are still without a conference victory.

The Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team was left searching for its first Midwest Athletic Conference win of the season after a 59-55 loss Monday to the New Bremen Cardinals.

The Indians (6-5, 0-3 MAC) fell behind 13-8 after the first quarter and trailed 26-23 at half. New Bremen (5-8, 1-2 MAC) began to pull away in the third quarter with a 17-9 edge in the third quarter.

Cade Wendel, who shared the team lead with 15 points, led a FRHS surge in the fourth quarter by scoring 11 points in the frame as the Indians put up 23 points but fell just shy of their first MAC win.

Payton Jutte had four 3-pointers on his way to 15 points for the Tribe, and Ryan Braun scored five of his nine points in the fourth quarter. 

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also lost, 51-37. Ryne Post led the squad with 13 points, and Regan Martin chipped in nine points.



Chiefs topple Eagles

DUNKIRK — The East Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams toppled the West Jay Eagles on Monday.

In the eighth grade contest, the Chiefs won 22-13, and East Jay had a 27-5 win in the seventh grade game.

Andrea Jutte scored eight points to lead the Chief eighth graders (7-5). Madison Dirksen and Heaven Hambrock both tallied six points as Abby Elzey scored two points. 

Isabel Rodgers scored 10 points for West Jay. Paige Mumbower and Lizzie Dollar had two and one point respectively.

In the seventh grade tilt, Renna Schwieterman had 13 points and Olivia Waters tallied 10 points to lead East Jay (11-1). Lydia Keihn completed the scoring with four points.

Gabi Bilbrey finished with three points for West Jay, and Grace Shimp had two points.
