FORT?WAYNE — The TinCaps had a lead against the top team in the league.
They couldn’t keep it, and lost for the fourth time in as many games.
The Fort Wayne TinCaps suffered their fourth consecutive loss, dropping a 6-1 game to the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Monday at Parkview Field.
The TinCaps (11-8, 43-45) led 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning after Luis Campusano doubled to right field to drive in Kelvin Melean, who began the inning with a double of his own.
Bowling Green (13-6, 60-38), which won the Midwest League’s Eastern Division in the first half, responded quickly the next frame. The Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) tied the game on a passed ball and took the lead on a Eleardo Cabrera double.
Three singles in the top of the seventh helped the Hot Rods push the advantage 3-1.
Bowling Green tacked on three more runs in the top of the ninth.
TinCaps starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore, the No. 2 prospect in the San Diego Padres’ organzation, threw five innings, allowed two runs on three hits and struck out three. He suffered his third loss of the year, one outing after recording his first professional victory.
Melean and Campusano both had two hits for the TinCaps, who begin a six-game road trip on Wednesday.
