SOUTH BEND — The TinCaps had a two-run lead in the top of the 10th inning vanish.
One inning later, they again lost a lead, then dropped the game.
The Fort Wayne TinCaps dropped the series opener with the South Bend Cubs, 8-7, in 11 innings on Tuesday at Four Winds Field.
Fort Wayne (26-30) scored twice in the seventh inning and once in the eighth to knot the score at four apiece. It took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the 10th inning only to see South Bend (27-29) tie the score. Again the TinCaps nabbed a lead, 7-6, in the second extra frame before the home team scored twice for the walk-off win.
Gabriel Arias and Tirso Ornelas both doubled as they each finished with two hits for the TinCaps. Jeisson Rosario, Luis Campusano, Justin Lopez and Jalen Washington each collected two hits.
TinCap righty Aaron?Leasher threw four strong innings of relief, striking out eight and allowing just three baserunners.
Next game: at South Bend Cubs, 7:05 p.m. tonight. Probable starters — Nick Margevicius, FW (4-2) vs. Rollie Lacy, SB (1-1).
