SOUTH BEND— For the second time in franchise history, the TinCaps were held without a hit.
Rollie Lacy and Ben Hecht combined to no-hit the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Wednesday as the South Bend Cubs won, 7-0.
The only other time the TinCaps (26-31) were no-hit was in 1993, a 6-0 defeat to the Kane County Cougars when the franchise was known as the Fort Wayne Wizards.
Lacy struck out six in seven innings and didn’t issue a walk until he gave up free passes to Tirso Ornelas and Justin Lopez in the seventh inning.
Hecht threw two perfect frames of relief and had two strikeouts. Ornelas watched a 3-2 curveball for a called third strike to complete the no-hitter for the Cubs (28-29).
Luis Almanzar was the only other TinCap to reach base, doing so on an infield error in the third inning.
TinCaps starter Nick Margevicius was charged with six runs — five earned — in six innings despite striking out eight and not allowing a walk.
Notes: With a perfect inning of relief, TinCap pitcher Caleb Boushley lowered his ERA to 1.80, second only on the team to Evan Miller ... Earlier Wednesday, catcher Luis Campusano and left-handed pitchers Aaron Leasher, Travis Radke and Margevicius were selected to represent the TinCaps in the Midwest?League All-Star Classic, set for June 19 at Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing, Michigan, home of the Lansing Lugnuts.
