A little bit of rain throughout the day and relatively cooler temperatures couldn’t dampen the Jay County Summer Swim Team as it opened its season Monday.
Jay County had eight members win three events each as it doubled up Catalina, 830.5-414.5 at Portland Water Park.
Maria Laux (8-and-younger), Maddy Snow (9-10-year-old), Hannah Laux (11-12-year-old), Mara Bader (13-14-year-old), Alex Bader (15-and-older), Eliza Bader (15-and-older), Jason Minnich (15-and-older) and Chase McFarland (15-and-older) all had victories in three individual events.
Those winning two events on the evening were Kaitlyn Fisher (8-and-younger), Raif Beiswanger (8-and-younger), Alex Miller (8-and-under), Sophie Saxman (11-12-year-old) and Elayna Paro (13-14-year-old).
Jay County got single event wins from Ben Fisher (8-and-younger), Lauren Fisher (9-10-year-old), Matthew Fisher (9-10-year-old), George Clemmons (9-10-year-old), Morgan DeHoff (11-12-year-old), Timo Minnich (11-12-year-old), Emily Strausburg (13-14-year-old), Dorane Beiswanger (13-14-year-old), Konner Sommers (13-14-year-old) and Elizabeth McDowell (15-and-older).
Amelia Heath, a 7-year-old, swam in the long freestyle as the first individual race of her career and she finished first.
Jay County, which hosts Wells Community at 6 p.m. Thursday, also won 16 of the 20 relays across all age groups.
