Huelskamp leads Eel girls over St. Henry
ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Eel girls did enough to earn a victory before storms ended the evening.
The Fort Recovery Eels girls swimmers knocked off host St. Henry 319-264 in a meet that was called early because of inclement weather. The boys lost to St. Henry, 206-138.
Makenna Huelskamp set the pace for the Fort Recovery girls as she took first place in the 9-10-year-old 50-meter freestyle, 100 individual medley and 25 backstroke. Michaela Firks added wins in the same age group in the 25 freestyle and 25 butterfly.
Also picking up two wins apiece were Kendall Ranly in the 8-and-younger 25 breaststroke and 25 butterfly and Cassy Martin in the 15-and-older 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke. Individual winners were Eliza Smith, Danielle Braun, Audra Bubp and Alexis Bubp.
Sage Wendel took first in the 11-12-year-old 100 individual medley and 25 backstroke for the Eel boys. Adding single wins were Briar Leuthold, Will Faller, Caleb Smith, Eli Lennartz and Alex Hiser.
Flamespray wins
Flamespray and All Circuit managed to get a Portland Junior League Rookie baseball game in prior to the storms Thursday with the former posting a 14-3 victory.
Mitchell Byrum, Grant Fennig, Porter Clamme and Gavin Byrum all went 3-for-3 to lead Flamespray to the win. Nick Snow went 2-for-3 with a triple.
Shawn Harrell recorded a pair of hits for All Circuit.
Flamespray also defeated Pioneer Packaging 18-5 Wednesday, with Clamme, Snow and Gavin Byrum each racking up four hits. Samuel Wiggins and Dillon Jellison had two hits apiece for Pioneer.
Also Wednesday, Pak-a-Sak topped Williams Auto Parts 10-3 behind four hits and four runs from Alex Miller. Caleb Sibray and Tyce Foreman also had four hits. Kellen Keys, Kevin Dues, Danton Hanlin and Gabriel Enyart each had two hits for Williams.
Lodge 87 wins pair
Jay Lodge 87 swept a doubleheader Tuesday in Portland Junior League Major softball, defeating Jay County Monuments 6-2 and 20-12.
Justice Day finished the day with seven hits, including a pair of doubles. Grace Brewster and Drew Dressel each had two doubles in game two, and Dressel recorded a double and a triple in the opener.
Kaya Champ had a hit in each game for Monuments.
Also Tuesday, Jay County Therapeutics topped Crossroads 11-10 in Minor softball. Mallory Winner earned the victory while Savannah Luger recorded two hits, including a double and three RBIs. Jordan Hutzler had the lone hit for Crossroads.
