Jay County used depth to its advantage.
With 15 swimmers winning two or more events Tuesday, the Jay County Summer Swim Team cruised to an 849-323 victory over South Adams at Portland Water Park.
Chase McFarland and Jason Minnich led a group of four triple winners as they dominated the 15-and-older boys events. The former was first in the long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley while the latter took the 200 freestyle, butterfly and short freestyle.
Maria Laux picked up wins in the 8-and-younger girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley, and Mara Bader set the pace in the 13-14-year-old girls long freestyle, butterfly and short freestyle.
Alex Bader set a new team record in the 15-and-older girls 200 freestyle while also taking first in the butterfly. Other double event winners were Alex Miller, Matthew Fisher, Hannah Laux, Morgan DeHoff, Sophie Saxman, Joseph Dow, Creed Beiswanger, Dorane Beiswanger, Eliza Bader and Elizabeth McDowell.
Adding individual victories for Jay County were Kaitlyn Fisher, Raif Beiswanger, Sam Wiggins, Lauren Fisher, Brandon Kegley, David Keen, George Clemmons, Timo Minnich, Cohen Henry, Braxton Malott, Ben Nichols, Nico Minnich, Damian Hicks, Ethan Miller and Vivienne Kunkler.
Eels edge Darke
GREENVILLE, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Eels summer swim team won just four relays, but had enough depth Tuesday to pull off a 696-640 victory
over host Darke County.
Fort Recovery swept the 9-10-year-old girls events with Autumn Leuthold taking first in the 25-meter freestyle, 25 breaststroke and 50 freestyle.
Makenna Huelskamp was first in the 25 butterfly and 100 individual medley, and Jesse Springer took the 25 backstroke.
Joining Leuthold in winning three events for the Eels were Teigen Fortkamp in the 13-14-year-old girls 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 100 freestyle,
Paige Fortkamp in the same events in the 15-and-old girls division and Sage Wendel in the 11-12-year-old boys 25 butterfly, 50 freestyle and 100 individual medley.
