Patriots break three records

ANDERSON — The Patriot girls track team opened its indoor season Friday.
Three school records were taken down in the process.
Two individual and one relay record were broken Friday as the Jay County High School girls track team competed in the Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Lucy Laux, a JCHS senior, broke Jordan McMillan’s 2011 record in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 2.75 inches, as she was runner-up. McMillan’s former mark was 16 feet, 1.5 inches.
Sophomore Calli Stigleman had a time of 8.43 seconds in the 60-meter dash for a new school record, besting sisters Lucy (2017) and Emma (2016) Laux.
The 4x200 relay team of Kinsey Shannon, Renee Omstead, Ashlyn Down and Stigleman had a time of 1 minute, 55.3 seconds, beating the 2013 record of 1:55.41 set by Morgan Brown, Emma Laux, Malarie Houck and Alexis Myers.
Also finishing in the top-eight were Kendal Garringer (third – high jump), Grace Saxman (sixth – 60 hurdles), Gwen Omstead (seventh – shot put) and Abby Benter (eighth – 60 hurdles).
Swimmers fall
Jay County middle school’s swim teams both came out on the losing end against the Bluffton Tigers on Friday at JCHS.
The boys team fell 164-153 while the girls lost 204-87.
Damian Hicks and Juan Pablo Wiggins each had an individual victory and helped a winning relay for the boys team. Hicks was first in the 100-yard backstroke with his time of 1 minute, 23.44 seconds, and Wiggins finished in 2:20.09 to win the 200 freestyle.
They joined Nico Minnich and Konner Sommers to place first in 200 freestyle relay.
Mara Bader and Elayna Paro both won two individual events. Bader beat the field in the 100 individual medley (1:07.26) and 50 butterfly (29.75) while Paro was victorious in the 200 freestyle (2:21.49) and 100 breaststroke (1:22.9).
