COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Tribe’s offense showed up early in the season opener.
It was late in game two.
Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team opened its 2018 campaign Saturday by splitting a pair of games against the Westerville South Wildcats and host Worthington Kilbourne Wolves.
The Indians grabbed a 6-2 win against the Wolves before an 8-1 loss to the Wolves.
In game one against the Wildcats, Fort Recovery (1-1) scored two runs in the first inning and tacked on four more in the third for a commanding 6-0 advantage. Westerville South broke the shutout with two runs in the fifth but got nothing more.
Will Homan led the FRHS offense with a pair of hits, while Ben Homan and Reese Rogers both had a pair of RBIs. Rogers got the win on the bump.
In the second game, the Wolves jumped on the Indians with one run in the first inning, three in the third and four in the fourth. The Tribe’s only run came in the top of the sixth, after which the game was called because of darkness.
Ben Homan drove in Cade Wendel for the Tribe’s only run, and Nick Thwaits suffered the loss by going only 2 1/3 innings.
Outcalt wins title
BLOOMINGTON — Hannah Outcalt is a state champion.
Outcalt, a freshman at Jay County High School who competes for Mid-America Gymnastics in Marion, earned a state championship on Saturday in the “Cookie Monster” Xcel State Gymnastics Championships at Twin Lakes Recreation Center.
The Xcel Gold gymnast earned a 9.274 on balance beam to claim her first state championship. She was also ninth on floor exercise with 8.95 and was 13th on both vault (8.85) and uneven bars (8.7).
Her all-around total of 35.775 was fifth.
Outcalt and her Mid-American Gymnastics team will compete in the NCAA Youth Gymnastics Championships April 20 through 22 in St. Louis in conjunction with the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships.
