NEW HAVEN — It wasn’t the best score of his career, nor was it the lowest of the season.

But Collin Haines grabbed medalist honors.

Haines, a Jay County High School senior, led the Patriot boys golf team as it finished first in a three-team meet on Tuesday with Woodlan and Heritage at Whispering Creek Golf Club.

Jay County totaled 196 strokes, edging Woodlan by six. Heritage shot 214 for third.

Haines earned match medalist honors by shooting 42 in leading Jay County. Freshman Griffin Mann had a career-best 47 to finish second on the team, and Auston Rittenhouse was third with 52. Devin Harris completed the team score with 55.

Joey Hall also competed, and his 61 did not factor into the Patriots’ total.



Muselman medals

BLUFFTON — David Muselman tied for the lowest score Tuesday as the South Adams boys golf team was last in a four-team meet at Timber Ridge Golf Course.

Adams Central won with a score of 198, seven strokes ahead of Bluffton. Southern Wells shot 214, and South Adams finished with 248.

Muselman shot a 42, matching the score of Bluffton’s Spencer Schwartz as they shared medalist honors.

Blaine Harruff was second for the Starfires with a 66, and Eli Hamrick was two strokes behind at 68.

Braden Bixler’s 72 completed the team score. Korbin Dunnuck also played, and he finished with 87.



Stars sweep Indians

UNION CITY — The South Adams girls tennis team swept the Union City Indians on Tuesday, 5-0.

Haley Gerber at No. 1 singles defeated Moran Wymer 6-1, 6-0, and at No. 2 singles Julia Grabau knocked off Emily Cline by the same score.

At No. 3 singles, Hannah Dull defeated Aliya Zimmers 6-0, 6-0.

The Starfires’ No. 1 doubles team of Breanna Potts and Jade Farlow knocked off Audey Sullenbarger and Sydney Ralston 6-1, 6-1, while Katrina Fosnaugh and Cassie Yoder teamed to beat Ashley Cline and Maia Casillas.



Optimist beats Lions

Portland Optimist shut out the Portland Lions Club 7-0 Tuesday in Portland Junior League’s Willie Mays division.

Landon Garringer had two hits, a walk, a run and an RBI for Optimist, which also got two hits, a run and an RBI from AJ Myers. Dominick Bright, Griffin Byrum, Hunter Lawhead and Keegan Cavanaugh all contributed singles.

Wes Wenning, Isaac Scott and Canyon Nichols all had hits for Lions Club.



Kiwanis wins

Kiwanis picked up a 6-4 victory against PG-14 on Tuesday in Willie Mays action of Portland Junior League.

Cole Carpenter had two doubles to lead Kiwanis, which also got a triple form Jasper Hartzell and two singles from Gavin Young. Austin Curtis contributed a single and Carter Barton tallied two runs.

Rhysin Blowers hit a triple to lead PG-14. Landon Blowers collected a double and two RBIs, as Leighton Brown and Maddox Huffman both had singles.
